Moken children can see clearly underwater
Children from Thailand’s Moken tribe have shown an unusual ability to see underwater without goggles, a skill that has fascinated scientists since the late 1990s. Research shows their vision is about twice as sharp as that of European children under the same conditions.
The Moken, known as sea nomads, live around the Surin Islands and rely on diving for food. Their ability is believed to be a learned adaptation from spending long hours in the sea from an early age.

Silent Reflux Can Damage More Than Your Throat
Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), or “silent reflux,” irritates the throat and voice box without causing the usual heartburn linked to GERD. Symptoms include hoarseness, chronic throat clearing, cough, and even a lump-in-throat sensation—often mistaken for respiratory issues.
Experts warn stomach acid can also weaken tooth enamel, leading to sensitivity, decay, and lasting dental damage. A new Reel by Dr. Joe Damiani highlights how addressing reflux may ease oral discomfort for people who never realize acid is the culprit.

Meet the Blue Fugates: The Blue-Skinned Family of Kentucky and the Science Behind Their Rare Condition
The remote hills of Eastern Kentucky were home to a distinct community for a long time. They had a strikingly blue skin which puzzled them and the neighbors for decades. Known as the Blue Fugates or the blue people of Kentucky, the condition was the result of a rare hereditary blood disorder called methemoglobinemia, or cyanosis which turned their skin a distinctive shade of blue while leaving them otherwise healthy.
The condition was traced back to the recessive gene carried by the founding members of the family.

How would you feel if you were a mom who just found birth control pills hidden in your 15-year-old’s drawer? Will you respect your child’s decision, or will you feel the need to contact the authorities in charge?
As we move towards more liberal times, the conversation on adolescents’ sexual education, rights, and freedom has posed a dilemma in many homes, with the need to decide between protecting teens' health and honoring their families’ values.
In this article, you will find out everything you need to know, from facts, laws, and expert insights to real-life situations.
The Health Perspective: Why birth control access matters for teens
According to global reports from the W.H.O., nearly 1 in 10 girls aged 15–19 in low and middle-income countries become pregnant each year, with almost half of the pregnancies unplanned and ending in abortions.[1]
This issue is particularly concerning because adolescent mothers are at higher risk for several complications and diseases like sexual transmitted infections, eclampsia, uterine wall infection, and systemic infections.
To reduce this public health concern and keep the teenagers safe, strategies are aimed at the prevention of adolescent pregnancy and childbearing by encouraging safer sex practices, the use of contraceptives, and abstinence.

First It Was ‘Protein Goals,’ Now TikTok Is On About ‘Fiber Goals.’ How Can You Meet Yours?
Different types of fiber
Dietary fibers are indigestible parts of plant foods. Unlike other carbohydrates that break down into sugar, these complex carbs pass through our digestive tract mostly unchanged.
There are two main types of dietary fiber:
Soluble fibers dissolve in water to form gel-like substances. You can find these in fruits such as apples and berries, vegetables such as sweet potatoes and carrots, as well a legumes and oats.
Soluble fibers can slow down digestion and help us feel fuller for longer. They support heart health, lower blood cholesterol and help regulate blood sugar levels.
Insoluble fibers don’t dissolve in water, but add bulk to food. You can get this type of fiber from wheat bran, fruits and vegetable skins, nuts and seeds, beans and whole grain foods.
Insoluble fibers add bulk to the stool and help regulate bowel movements and reduce constipation.

Supreme Court Orders Removal of Stray Dogs From Delhi-NCR Streets in 8 Weeks, Mandates Permanent Shelters
The Supreme Court on August 11, 2025, directed municipal bodies in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and Ghaziabad to remove all stray dogs from public spaces and relocate them to permanent shelter homes within eight weeks. The court ordered that the dogs be sterilized and not released back onto the streets afterward.
A panel of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta made this decision following petitions that reported frequent dog bite incidents in Delhi-NCR. The court told authorities that it was “not a time to talk but to act” and set strict timelines for compliance.
Under the order, municipal corporations, councils, and development authorities must establish or identify permanent shelters equipped with facilities for housing the relocated animals. These shelters should provide food, water, and medical care. The court has ordered the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) to oversee the process of sterilizing and sheltering stray dogs and to provide regular updates on their progress.

‘The Walking Dead’ Actress Kelley Mack Dies at 33 After Cancer Battle
In September 2024, Kelley Mack began experiencing persistent lower back pain, initially assumed to be a slipped disc, alongside a neuropathic "itching" sensation in her right thigh. Over time, she had shooting pains in her legs and back and couldn’t lie flat, often needing a recliner to sleep. An urgent MRI revealed a spinal cord mass; a biopsy in January confirmed it was diffuse midline glioma (DMG).
Diffuse midline glioma is classified as a grade IV malignant tumor, known for its rapid progression and resistance to treatment, particularly when located in the spinal cord or brainstem.
In the U.S., gliomas are rare, with only about six cases per 100,000 people annually, yet remain the most common primary tumors of the brain and spinal cord.
Mack underwent surgery that resulted in the loss of most movement in her legs; she required a walker and wheelchair. She then began radiation therapy in Cincinnati and publicly shared her recovery journey—including relearning to climb stairs by March 2025.
