Since our latest Video came on the weekend, ' The Best Cruise Ships We Tried in 2025', a lot of you have been asking specifically about the luxury ships featured in our 2025 wrap-up. We featured two in that Luxury and Ultra Luxury bracket, Oceania and Crystal.

That Oceania video will be coming out shortly, but some of you hadn't realised that our Crystal review series is already available for viewing. There are two videos in that. The first is the Full Review, and the 2nd is a behind the scenes look at our time aboard. Both give a really good insight into the world of 6 Star Ultra Luxury Cruising and whether it could be worth booking.

Crystal is the famous "comeback" story in the cruise world. They won "World's Best" for 20 years, went bankrupt, and has now been reborn. But is the "King of Luxury" actually back on the throne?

Remember we mentioned a few months ago that Celebrity Cruises is going to be starting River Cruising? Well they've announced a bit more about this, including the fact you can start booking.

Well, it all starts in a couple of weeks, on September 3rd 2025

But it's being opened up as a bit of a lottery style. At 9 a.m. on Sept. 3rd. interested passengers will be allowed to place a refundable $500 deposit to receive early ACCESS to book a 2027 sailing ahead of the general public, as well as be among the first to receive itinerary and stateroom details.

Meaning put the deposit down first, and then find out a bit more later.

So far information about the new Celebrity river ships has been a bit of a mystery. All they have let on is that they have described them as blending the design and sophistication of Celebrity's Edge-class ocean ships with European charm, BUT on the river. Certainly renders show a sleek, and futuristic design.

Celebrity has mentioned that the first itineraries will take place on the Danube and Rhine rivers. The river cruise fares will include all meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic meals, Wi-Fi, onboard experiences and one shore excursion per day. So, in line with several existing premium river operators.

Celebrity says that since they have announced this new river division their customers are deliciously happy: "There's an avalanche of demand to be on Celebrity's waitlist ... and the calls to the call center." Going on to add: "They trust we'll be able to deliver an elevated experience. In a sense we're going to try to miniaturize Edge class on the rivers."

Two vessels are scheduled for 2027 delivery, then four per year after that. Ultimately there could be up to 10 newbuilds.

So, not a lot of information to go on. But that or will be on a new ship,band going to the Rhine and/or Danube. Would you try out these new ships? Will you be paying up the $500 on September 3rd?

Over coming months, we’ll be sailing with 5 completely different cruise lines, each offering a unique experience. From ultra-luxury to megaships, classic cruising to newcomers. As always, giving scrupulously fair reviews.

🚢 Cruise 1 – September: Crystal Cruises. In the ultra-luxury sector. For anyone dreaming of a once-in-a-lifetime, bucket list voyage. Crystal is long praised for outstanding service, gourmet dining, and attention to detail. We’ll be sailing from Europe to Casablanca and can’t wait to see if Crystal lives up to its reputation.

🚢 Cruise 2 – October: Star Princess. It's a brand new ship. After a rocky start to the Sun Princess, we’re curious to see how their 2025 ship fares. We’ll be cruising in the Mediterranean — and sharing our experience.

🚢 Cruise 3 – November: the recently released MSC World America. Yes, you read that right! We’re giving MSC another go. Sailing the Caribbean. We’ve had mixed experiences with MSC in the past (we almost swore off them forever!), but we believe everyone deserves another chance. We’ll be reviewing with complete fairness!

🚢 Cruise 4 – Late November: Oceania Cruises. On the new 'Allura.' This line is popular among those who once loved Cunard but feel it's lost its way. Oceania promises outstanding cuisine, elegant afternoon teas, and a nod to classic ocean travel. Let's see!

🎄 Cruise 5 – December: Festive Mystery Cruise! More details on that later in the year.

💔 A Personal Note: 'The Cruise That Couldn't Happen.' You may notice one cruise is markedly missing from this list. In 10 days, we were due to sail on Cunard Queen Victoria, on what was to be a very special family voyage. With my sister and 90 year old father. Sadly, this week my father became unwell and is unable to travel. He had been looking forward to this for months. His clothes have been laid out on his bed since June, his shoes polished. We are heartbroken to cancel this, and not to be sailing with him on that. We’re hopeful to reschedule this cruise with him after the New Year, when he is better, because we are determined to make that journey happen, and make it with him together. He’s a beacon of cruising spirit in one's golden years, and a reminder that travel is for everyone with a spark for life.

Hello from Malta! We've been here the past few days, and loving it!

I tell you what, Malta is remarkably striking, especially by night. I thought I would show you a few photos we have taken, so you can visualise.

Valletta the Capital, is the crown jewel. The Cathedral perched up high, is commanding and beautifully lit. These shots were taken from the suburb of Sliema, directly opposite. There is a delightful walkway that takes you all around the harbour, for many miles, from one suburb to the other, giving delightful strolls.

Malta has many characteristics that immediately appeal, and draw you in. Firstly the safety. It is one of the safest capitals in the World, according to official global data. And you notice it as you stroll around, night or day. As a traveller, puts you at ease. You can have all the beauty and attractions to behold, but if you don't feel safe, that counts for nothing. Malta has both beauty and safety in one. Add to that so much charm, and with one of the most predictable warm and sunny climates, you start to form a winning combination.

You also need lots to see. We have been doing that part the last couple of days, and been on the historic trail. Visiting some fascinating older parts.
