Did I handle this customer bill fairly? 🛠️

Recalls are easily the most frustrating part of the trade, but when a quick fix doesn't hold up and you have to go back to do it the "long way", how do you handle the pricing?

In tonight's video, I’m back on a Worcester Bosch boiler sorting a stubborn plate heat exchanger that kept short cycling. After testing chemical siphoning first to save the client money, I had to drop the plate out properly from behind the manifold.

At the end of the video, I break down exactly what I invoiced them — but I want to know what you would do:

Eat the cost completely as a callback guarantee?

Charge full labor for both visits?

Just bill the difference between the jobs?

Battling 34°C heat on the last job before the holiday! I was running a new external 22mm gas line to a boiler, started off with a low route planned around the doors and fence, then scrapped it mid-job to take it up over the flat roof.

Doing that saved a mountain of elbow fittings, eliminated flow restriction, and kept the pipework clean with some proper bends.

Would you have stuck to the low route, or was going over the roof the right call?

We’ve all been there... Walked onto a job today where the customer insisted on ordering all their own materials to "save money". Fast forward...wrong sizing, mismatched gear, and extra pipework acrobatics that ended up costing them far more than if we'd just supplied it from day one! 🤦🏽‍♂️

Between wrestling stubborn baffles, dealing with a rock-solid blocked condensate trap, and contorting myself into a pretzel just to swap out a PRV... it threw pretty much everything at me. Oh, and just when I thought it was time to pack away, a blocked plate heat exchanger decided otherwise!

We also kicked off with a 40-minute timed repair on a Vaillant F75 fault to show why having the right van stock is a lifesaver.
