They thought I was just 'swapping parts' and guessing... 🤦🏽‍♂️

One of the hardest things to explain to a customer is that you physically cannot find a secondary fault until the first one is fixed. It’s a sequence. If the pump isn't running, I can't test the diverter. If the diverter is stuck, I can't test the sensors.

I got caught out by a hidden fault on a rental property that nearly made me look like I didn't know what I was doing. It’s a classic example of why 'fault-finding' is a science, not a guessing game.

I’ve fitted loads of rads over the years, but I almost got caught out by this one. It turns out some 'designer' and specific models have a very strict flow and return orientation.

If you get it wrong, you’re looking at a cold radiator, a noisy system, and a very annoyed customer. I’m also tackling a boiler that sounds like a whistling kettle, wait until you hear what was causing it! ✈️💨

I’ll be honest... this one had me beat. 🤦🏽‍♂️ 📉

I was called to an ignition lockout. All my tests pointed to a faulty gas valve, so I replaced it. No joy. Then I tried a test PCB. Still nothing.

I was about to walk away when I happened to move my head and look 'around the corner' of the mass flow sensor. What I found was a complete freak occurrence that I never would have expected.

Look at all that sludge... so why is the boiler still failing?!🤦🏽‍♂️ 📉

I spent the day powerflushing a system that’s been problematic for over a year. I pulled out a decent amount of iron oxide, take a look at those magnets!

You’d think the job was a success, but the boiler is still struggling and throwing an F28 fault code. I’ve checked the isolation, the bypass, and the flow... but I think I’ve found the 'point of no return.'
