They thought I was just 'swapping parts' and guessing... π€¦π½ββοΈ
One of the hardest things to explain to a customer is that you physically cannot find a secondary fault until the first one is fixed. Itβs a sequence. If the pump isn't running, I can't test the diverter. If the diverter is stuck, I can't test the sensors.
I got caught out by a hidden fault on a rental property that nearly made me look like I didn't know what I was doing. Itβs a classic example of why 'fault-finding' is a science, not a guessing game.

Stop! π Before you pipe up your next radiator... read this.
Iβve fitted loads of rads over the years, but I almost got caught out by this one. It turns out some 'designer' and specific models have a very strict flow and return orientation.
If you get it wrong, youβre looking at a cold radiator, a noisy system, and a very annoyed customer. Iβm also tackling a boiler that sounds like a whistling kettle, wait until you hear what was causing it! βοΈπ¨

Most engineers connect the machine and leave the boiler off, but tonight I'm showing you why I do things differently. I use the boilerβs own heat to supercharge the chemicals.

Most engineers know the main pump, but on the Vaillant 937/938, thereβs a 'secret' secondary pump that causes a lot of confusion when it fails.
I see people replacing the wrong parts all the time on these storage combis. Tonight at 5.30, Iβm showing you exactly how to swap this out without making a mess! π οΈπ
Poll: Have you ever worked on a 937 or 938? π Yeah, love 'em! π Once... and never again. π I didn't even know they existed! π I stick to the standard ecoTECs.
Iβm not here to argue. Iβm here to fix your heating. π οΈπ
I turned up to a job 4 hours late (according to the tenant) to find them waiting at the door ready for a fight. I had to give them a straight choice: You can either win an argument, or you can have a working boiler.

I was called to an ignition lockout. All my tests pointed to a faulty gas valve, so I replaced it. No joy. Then I tried a test PCB. Still nothing.
I was about to walk away when I happened to move my head and look 'around the corner' of the mass flow sensor. What I found was a complete freak occurrence that I never would have expected.

Look at all that sludge... so why is the boiler still failing?!π€¦π½ββοΈ π
I spent the day powerflushing a system thatβs been problematic for over a year. I pulled out a decent amount of iron oxide, take a look at those magnets!
Youβd think the job was a success, but the boiler is still struggling and throwing an F28 fault code. Iβve checked the isolation, the bypass, and the flow... but I think Iβve found the 'point of no return.'
