We can now look back on Typhoon Sinlaku's forecast with some perspective. One thing that stands out to me is how agencies with decades of experience still tend to lean more on traditional global models than newer AI-based guidance.



In some cases, that hesitation can lead to larger forecast errors. These are differences that can mean having 5 days to prepare instead of just 2.



But overall, there is an important lesson here:
Don’t be afraid to split from the crowd if you have a forecast you truly believe in!
