Last night I did a stroll to Coal Drops Yard (a vibrant area outside King's Cross) and saw the annual Everman Cinema Pop Up where they play free films in outside open cinema. The atmosphere was buzzing, revellers out with their tinnies from the local supermarkets in the glorious weather right into the evening. This is one of many annual free cultural events in London you can enjoy on your doorstep if you live in the city!

Sad times! In a previous video I spoke about one of my favourite London hacks-The Pret Coffee Subscription allowing up to 5 coffees a day for £30 a month! This was launched in the pandemic at originally £20 a month. This is now being scrapped with a new scheme which works out far more costly (£10 a month but then you pay 50% off every coffee).

I think what I find sad about this most of all is that running around the city between my freelancer gigs it always gave me somewhere to sit in a new environment-for example. I might be facilitating a Learning and development workshop for a client in the afternoon and have a break before hosting one of my evening bar quizzes and i'll miss that!

I'll be honest the coffee is not great.....it wasn't really what I was paying for-as I say its the convenience and somewhere to sit.

Don't get me wrong I like my coffee and drink far too much, so I'll prob be doing a mix going forward-including getting the old coffee machine out in my flat!

But what about about the bright side? Maybe I'll be inclined to support more independant shops, try one of those Gail's bakery joints that are popping up everywhere! Plus I do like my Illy coffee!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending my University's Alumni event at their new Canary Wharf Building. It was great to connect with some of my old professors at UCL but it also made me think why was this the first time after so many years since I graduated that I went to such an event?

When it comes to expanding our #networks sometimes we forget the resources and oppportunities we already have. I met some really interesting fellow alumni from different years working in such a diverse set of industries AND had some really insightful discussions which can inform my freelance facilitation work in the learning and development sector (and who knows collaborations even!). Is there a similar opportunity available to you that you might be overlooking to do the same? If so give it a chance and go for it-you never know where it might lead!

P.S The after dinner wine and steak didn't hurt either against the scenic city backdrop!
