Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl: Wandering and roaming around, I met the Holy Perfect Guru, who has taught me. All other devices did not work, so I meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1|| For this reason, I sought the Protection and Support of my Lord, the Cherisher of the Universe. I sought the Sanctuary of the Perfect Transcendent Lord, and all my entanglements were dissolved. ||Pause|| Paradise, the earth, the nether regions of the underworld, and the globe of the world - all are engrossed in Maya. To save your soul, and liberate all your ancestors, meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||

हे भाई! खोजते खोजते जब मैं गुरु महां पुरख को मिला, तो पूरे गुरु ने (मुझे) यह समझ दी की ( माया के मोह से बचने के लिए) और सारी जुग्तियों में से एक भी जुगत कान नहीं आती। परमात्मा का नाम सिमरन करना ही काम आता है।१। इस लिए, हे भाई! मैंने परमात्मा का सहारा ले लिया। (जब मैं) सरब-व्यापक परमात्मा के सरन आया, तो मेरे सारे (माया के) जंजाल नास हो गये।रहाउ। हे भाई! देव लोक, मात लोक, पाताल-सारी ही सृष्टि माया (मोह में) फसी हुई है। हे भाई! सदा परमात्मा का नाम जपा करो, यही है जीवन को ( माया के मोह से बचाने वाला, यही है सारी ही कुलों को पार लगाने वाला।२।

इहु सरीरु जजरी है इस नो जरु पहुचै आए ॥ गुरि राखे से उबरे होरु मरि जमै आवै जाए ॥ होरि मरि जमहि आवहि जावहि अंति गए पछुतावहि बिनु नावै सुखु न होई ॥ ऐथै कमावै सो फलु पावै मनमुखि है पति खोई ॥ जम पुरि घोर अंधारु महा गुबारु ना तिथै भैण न भाई ॥ इहु सरीरु जजरी है इस नो जरु पहुचै आई ॥१॥ काइआ कंचनु तां थीऐ जां सतिगुरु लए मिलाए ॥ भ्रमु माइआ विचहु कटीऐ सचड़ै नामि समाए ॥ सचै नामि समाए हरि गुण गाए मिलि प्रीतम सुखु पाए ॥ सदा अनंदि रहै दिनु राती विचहु हंउमै जाए ॥ जिनी पुरखी हरि नामि चितु लाइआ तिन कै हंउ लागउ पाए ॥ कांइआ कंचनु तां थीऐ जा सतिगुरु लए मिलाए ॥२॥ सो सचा सचु सलाहीऐ जे सतिगुरु देइ बुझाए ॥ बिनु सतिगुर भरमि भुलाणीआ किआ मुहु देसनि आगै जाए ॥ किआ देनि मुहु जाए अवगुणि पछुताए दुखो दुखु कमाए ॥ नामि रतीआ से रंगि चलूला पिर कै अंकि समाए ॥ तिसु जेवडु अवरु न सूझई किसु आगै कहीऐ जाए ॥ सो सचा सचु सलाहीऐ जे सतिगुरु देइ बुझाए ॥३॥ जिनी सचड़ा सचु सलाहिआ हंउ तिन लागउ पाए ॥ से जन सचे निरमले तिन मिलिआ मलु सभ जाए ॥ तिन मिलिआ मलु सभ जाए सचै सरि नाए सचै सहजि सुभाए ॥ नामु निरंजनु अगमु अगोचरु सतिगुरि दीआ बुझाए ॥ अनदिनु भगति करहि रंगि राते नानक सचि समाए ॥ जिनी सचड़ा सचु धिआइआ हंउ तिन कै लागउ पाए ॥४॥४॥

☬ अर्थ ☬

यह शरीर नाश हो जाने वाला है, इस को बुढ़ापा आ दबाता है। जिनकी गुरू ने रक्षा की, वह (मोह में गर्क होने से) बच जाते हैं परन्तु अन्य जन्म मरण में लगे रहते हैं। अन्य जन्म मरण में लगे रहते हैं और अंत (मरण) समय पछताते हैं; हरी-नाम के बिना आत्मिक जीवन का सुख नहीं मिलता। इस लोक में जीव जो करनी कमाता है वही फल भोगता है। अपने मन के पीछे चलने वाला (प्रभू-दरबार में) अपनी इज़्ज़त गंवा लेता है। (उनके लिए) यम राज की पूरी में भी घोर अँधेरा, घोर अँधेरा ही बना रहता है, वहाँ बहन या भाई कोई सहायता नहीं कर सकता। यह शरीर पुराना हो जाने वाला है, इस को बुढ़ापा (ज़रूर) आ जाता है ॥१॥ यह शरीर तब सोने की तरह पवित्र होता है, जब गुरू (मनुष्य को) परमात्मा के चरणों में जोड़ देता है। (तब मनुष्य) सदा-थिर रहने वाले परमात्मा के नाम में लीन हो जाता है और इस के अंदर से माया की खातिर भटकना दूर हो जाती है। मनुष्य सदा-थिर प्रभू के नाम में लीन हो जाता है, परमात्मा के गुण गाता रहता है, प्रभू-प्रीतम को मिल कर आनंद मानता है। इस आनंद में दिन रात सदा टिका रहता है, और, इस के अंदर से अहंकार दूर हो जाता है। जिन मनुष्यों ने परमात्मा के नाम में मन जोड़ा हुआ है, मैं उनके चरणी लगता हूँ। शरीर तब सोने की तरह पवित्र हो जाता है, जब गुरू मनुष्य को परमात्मा के चरणों में जोड़ देता है ॥२॥ उस सदा कायम रहने वाले परमात्मा की सिफ़त-सलाह तब ही की जा सकती है, जब गुरू यह सूझ देता है। गुरू की श़रण के बिना (जीव-स्त्रियाँ) माया की भटकना में पड़ कर कुराहे पै जाती हैं और परलोक में जा कर श़र्म-सार होती हैं। परलोक में जा कर वह मुँह नहीं दिखा सकती। जो (जीव-स्त्री) औगुण में फँस जाती है, वह आखिर पछताती है, वह सदा दुःख ही दुःख सहती है। परमात्मा के नाम में रंगी हुई जीव-स्त्रियाँ परमात्मा के चरणों में लीन हो कर गहरे प्रेम-रंग में (मस्त रहती हैं)। उस परमात्मा के बराबर का (जगत में) अन्य कोई नहीं दिखता (इस लिए परमात्मा के बिना) किसी अन्य के आगे (कोई दुःख सुख) बताया नहीं जा सकता। उस सदा कायम रहने वाले परमात्मा की सिफ़त-सलाह तब ही की जा सकती है, जब गुरू यह सूझ देता है ॥३॥ जिन्होंने सदा-थिर प्रभू की सिफ़त-सलाह की, मैं उनके चरणी लगता हूँ। वह मनुष्य अडोल-मन हो जाते हैं, पवित्र हो जाते हैं, उनके दर्शन करने से (विकारों की) सारी मैल दूर हो जाती है। उनका दीदार करने से (विकारों की) सारी मैल लह जाती है मनुष्य सदा-थिर प्रभू के नाम-सरोवर में स्नान करता है उस (प्रभू) में लीन हो जाता है। सतिगुरू ने मुझे यह सूझ दी है कि परमात्मा का नाम माया की कालिख से रहित (करने वाला) है, परन्तु प्रभू (सियानप चतुराई के द्वारा) अपहुँच है, ज्ञान-इन्द्रयों की भी उस तक पहुँच नहीं। हे नानक जी! सदा-थिर प्रभू में लीन हो कर हर समय नाम-रंग में रंग कर प्रभू की भगती कर। जिन्होंने सदा-थिर प्रभू की सिफ़त-सलाह की, मैं उनके चरणी लगता हूँ ॥४॥४॥

☬ Meaning ☬

This body is frail; old age is overtaking it. Those who are protected by the Guru are saved, while others die, to be reincarnated; they continue coming and going. Others die, to be reincarnated; they continue coming and going, and in the end, they depart regretfully. Without the Name, there is no peace. As one acts here, so does he obtain his rewards; the self-willed manmukh loses his honor. In the City of Death, there is pitch darkness, and huge clouds of dust; neither sister nor brother is there. This body is frail; old age is overtaking it. ||1|| The body becomes like gold, when the True Guru unites one with Himself. Doubt and Maya have been removed from within me, and I am merged in the Naam, the True Name of the Lord. Merged in the True Name of the Lord, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord; meeting my Beloved, I have found peace. I am in constant bliss, day and night; egotism has been dispelled from within me. I fall at the feet of those who enshrine the Naam within their consciousness. The body becomes like gold, when the True Guru unites one with Himself. ||2|| We truly praise the True Lord, when the True Guru imparts understanding. Without the True Guru, they are deluded by doubt; going to the world hereafter, what face will they display ? What face will they show, when they go there ? They will regret and repent for their sins; their actions will bring them only pain and suffering. Those who are imbued with the Naam are dyed in the deep crimson color of the Lord's Love; they merge into the Being of their Husband Lord. I can conceive of no other as great as the Lord; unto whom should I go and speak ? We truly praise the True Lord, when the True Guru imparts understanding. ||3|| I fall at the feet of those who praise the Truest of the True. Those humble beings are true, and immaculately pure; meeting them, all filth is washed off. Meeting them, all filth is washed off; bathing in the Pool of Truth, one becomes truthful, with intuitive ease. The True Guru has given me the realization of the Naam, the Immaculate Name of the Lord, the unfathomable, the imperceptible. Those who perform devotional worship to the Lord night and day, are imbued with His Love; O Nanak Ji, they are absorbed in the True Lord. I fall at the feet of those who meditate on the Truest of the True. ||4||4||
