'First-cousin marriages have economic advantages': UK's National Health Service's latest guidance

Massive public outrage has erupted after the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) suggested in its latest that there are benefits to first-cousin marriage despite known health risks, including genetic disease in offspring.

The article titled, "Should the UK government ban first-cousin marriage," said that first-cousin marriage is linked to “stronger extended family support systems and economic advantages”.

The article has since been removed, with UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting calling for an apology over the controversial material.

The Keir Starmer government has been accused of prioritising cultural sensitivities as in-family marriages are common among people of Pakistani heritage.

Afghanistan is facing a total telecommunications blackout after the Taliban shut down internet across the country, according to internet watchdog Netblocks.

The ban has affected flight operations, in addition to mobile and broadband internet services, and satellite TV.

This comes after authorities began severing fibre-optic connections across the northern provinces to “prevent immorality”.
