Hey, cool people! If you're a fan of Kingdom Hearts, goofy humor, pronouns, and memes of affirmation, then you've found the right bisexual disaster! Get some water, pull up a cozy chair, and hang out a while š
I may have missed that final Friday Women's History Month post in March, but I'm here to make amends and post it today. Always remember Black History and Women's History is American (US) History and it can & should be celebrated any time.
This post is going to be different from the other 3 because instead of explaining anyone, I'm going to link creators I think you should follow if you enjoyed learning about the historical figures in my last 3 posts!
Check the comment for those creators and I hope you have a great weekend <3
Today for Womenās History Month, weāre going to learn about Katherine Johnson; who passed in 2020 at the age of 101. Her incredible aptitude at math helped to launch the first few NASA missions including the one to the moon!
During Project Mercury (the first US human spaceflight program), she calculated trajectories and orbital mechanics, which contributed to getting Alan Shepard into space, the first American to do so.
Her math prowess contributed to John Glennās orbital flight in 1962, and he had requested that Johnson specifically to verify the computerās calculations before he would trust the mission. She was known as a āhuman computerā that would do complex equations by hand.
She was also instrumental in the Apollo program as her calculations were a large reason for the successful 1969 Apollo 11 mission, getting the first man on the moon!
Check out the links in the comments to learn more about her life.
Continuing Women's History Month this Friday with Sojourner Truth who lived from 1797 to 1883, famous for her "Ain't I a woman?" speech, but did you know that speech was actually not the original speech?
There was no official published version of her speech from 1851, only rewritings, and the most famous is the 1863 version rewritten by Francis Dana Baker Gage, changed all of Sojourner's words but also wrote it in the dialect of a southern slave, despite the fact she lived in New York.
The most authentic version of this speech that was published, was published by Marius Robinson in the Anti Slavery Bugle in 1851 and was titled "On Women's Rights."
If you'd like to learn more about Sojourner, her true speech, and her life, I will be putting links in the comments! Thank you for reading C:
I missed my chance to celebrate Black History Month and Iāve been so tired Iām on a trajectory to miss Womanās History Month (stay-at-home dadding to two infants and a toddler will do that to ya lol)
But let me put a stop to that now, Iām mashing the celebrations together - every Friday for this month, Iām going to be posting about the accomplishments of black women - and linking interesting things I find in the comments.
Today, Iām gonna start with someone a little more well known, Rosa Parks who you may likely know for not giving her seat up on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955, but did you also know she worked for the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) for 13 years and did activist work in Detroit as well?
After her arrest she joined the MIA (Montgomery Improvement Association) led by a someone you may be familiar with, Martin Luther King Jr., and her arrest began the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
If youād like to know how Rosa Parkās arrest is involved in starting the boycott then you can learn more about that here: https://youtu.be/ylOpide9dus?si=5jEHc...
