Bullying is not "just part of growing up"... and it doesn’t end at the school gate, believe me.
In South Africa, reports indicate that 57% of children in schools have experienced bullying, with many facing verbal abuse, teasing, physical aggression and emotional distress.
The unfortunate is when these issues do not get solved and addressed, they continue into adulthood. Workplace bullying remains a serious issue as well, with studies and South African reports showing many employees experience humiliation, intimidation, exclusion and emotional mistreatment during their careers. Women, in particular, are often among those disproportionately affected by toxic environments and power imbalances.
Behind every statistic is a person silently questioning their worth, confidence and their safety. But I believe silence should never be the ending of someone’s story.
That is why I create and share these visuals, because speaking up is a skill and skills can be learned. This image is more than a poster; it’s a starting point to help young people and women including men build confidence, recognize red flags, set boundaries and find their voice when facing verbal, sexual or even physical bullying & assault. Because, if we don't try to create change, change will cease to exist. And we cannot let that happen. And it all starts with the man and woman in the mirror.
Believe that your voice carries power and that it matters and know that you need to speak up for yourself and that your safety is just as important. You deserve to be heard... you deserve to be taken into consideration💜
Proverbs 31:8 says "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute,"
I firmly believe that when we stand up for one another, we create a chain reaction that causes people to follow within those footsteps.
Research shows that 67% of learners experiencing bullying do not report it while 160 000 learners skip school to avoid it and that is why it is important for everyone to not only understand, but get up and speak up about it and take action.
We are all responsible for each other and I firmly believe that we can stop this traumatic experience for us and others if we place actions towards it.
This is my part in lending a helping hand to anyone who's dealing with this and/or someone who wants to help defeat this crime, because it is one.
