World Music Day & Audiophiles Meetup
Yesterday was World Music Day. So, how did we from Aural Cafe celebrate our Music Day? Well, you guessed it right, with Music.😁
Eventually, the biggest dedicated Audiophile Store of India, Headphone Zone selected this day to conduct their meetup event named 'Headphone Connect' in our beloved city, Kolkata, the cultural capital of India.
What do you guys think we did in the Headphone Connect??
Voila- we auditioned a whole bunch of Headphones. 😂 And some IEMs. 👀 Here are our key takeaways from the items we auditioned there.
HIFIMAN Electronics Suvara Unveiled- I became so emotional after putting this on my head. Everything else after this became so downhill, and I was lucky that I auditioned for it at last; otherwise, my whole day would have been ruined. The balance between the frequencies is fantastic. The overall presentation of the sound can never be this nuanced. The minute details were never missed. Maybe for my taste, the bass could have been a tiny bit higher. Again became even more emotional after seeing the price tag, freaking $8000. Goodness me.
Meze Audio Elite- I'm putting this to my second most favoured headphone from the whole room. The tonality is just adorable to my taste. The bass is very satisfying, adding a veil of warmth over the mids. I love it. The comfort is outstanding. It can be worn for hours and hours without being fatigued, even the tonality supports it. Liked it over the Empyrian-II.
Warwick Acoustics Bravura System- Okay, here is the elephant in the room, and I'm gonna point it out. It didn't satisfy me. Surprisingly, I've pushed the volume in the system to the fullest and yet the dynamism and punch were missing. I had high hopes for them, but they fell short of something. Although the tonality is good, I think I need more audition time to decide anything.
Final D8000 DC & D8000 DC Pro- It was a mixed bag for me. D8000 DC Pro, it disappoints me. The bass is lacking to me. For the treble part, it did overly well, creating a perfect imbalance in the tonality. Listened to some popular classic rock live and felt it was playing at a distant place. While the D8000 DC was more balanced and recovered sound for me. Found it better and more mature.
Focal Utopia- First things first, very detailed and very much like the house sound of Focal. Very compact soundstage and for some complex tracks, it didn't render the sound so well for me if I considering the price tag. I've also understood the mid-bass will be fatiguing for me. It was craving for the PEQ I felt.
ZMF Headphones Bokeh & Caldera- Bokeh is very sweet-sounding. Very natural and organic with a hint of warmth over the frequencies. It's the entry level of ZMF Headphones, and boy, they did well enough. On the other hand, Caldera is their only Planar Headphone among the whole line-up. It is also good, but the upper-mids are somewhat piercing to me. The mids are forwarded, and with the pairing, it was more forward. With the right chain, it should sound like the true flagship from the brand.
Noble Shogun- It does everything right for some genre, and something right, something wrong for the others. It has almost every type of driver you can think of. The bone conduction does the job very well, like skull-shattering. My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw it. The faceplate is probably the best I've ever seen. I've compared the past flagship, Viking Ragner, side-by-side, and I felt that in terms of technicalities, Viking edges.
The other notable mentions from the meeting are HEDD Heinz Electrodynamic Designs HEDDphone 2, solid stuff. DCA Noire-X, very nice for a closed-back sound. Fiio headphones are offering value for money performance also. Audeze LCD-5 and CRBN (E-Stat) were, as usual, star performers. For DAC/Amplifiers, Feliks Audio Echo II and Echo Vibe, Chord Electronics Alto, Dave (I forgot it exists because of the price, $12000 damn), Hugo 2, Gustard H26/A26 were the stand outs. Also listened, iBasso DX340, very technical and emotionless (umm yes, I want emotion).
So that's it from me, folks. Thanks a lot to Headphone Zone as well for organising such an event. If you are still reading, you are awesome. Let us organise a giveaway. Enjoy the holiday and stay musical.
