A farm can be profitable on paper… and still feel tight on cash flow.

Strong operations don’t just build agronomic plans — they build financing and cash flow plans around them.

How often do you revisit your farm’s cash flow plan during the production year?

Watch our full conversation with John Maman if you’re making input decisions, managing debt, or preparing for tighter margins ahead, this episode offers insights that can help you think differently about the financial side of your operation.

Herbicide programs across Indiana range from roughly $45 to over $60 per acre—but those differences are driven by much more than product choice.

In northern Indiana, many programs are built around managing herbicide-resistant weeds like waterhemp with multiple modes of action and strong residual control. In southern Indiana, longer emergence windows and grass pressure create an entirely different challenge.

Lower-cost programs may work short term—but if resistance builds, the long-run cost of losing control can become much higher.

Our newest #AgBrief with Madisen Carns breaks down how geography, resistance pressure, and operational risk are reshaping weed control decisions across corn and soybean systems.

Farmer sentiment is falling—but what’s behind it?

Fertilizer prices are up sharply (nitrogen ~40% year-over-year), and more farmers are starting to worry about input availability—not just cost.

That combination is pushing:
• Break-even prices higher
• Income expectations lower
• Investment plans on hold

In our latest #AgCast, we go beyond the #AgBarometer report to explain what's happening—and implications for your operation in 2026-2027 and beyond.

Question:
Are higher input costs changing your plans for 2026/2027?

April Corn & Soybean Basis Update is out

We’re seeing widespread strengthening in corn and soybean basis across the Eastern Corn Belt—but the real story is the variation across regions.

Some areas (like Illinois and the Ohio River corridor) saw sharp gains well above historical averages, while others remain well below long-run norms.

That gap between local strength and historical expectations is where marketing decisions get more complex.

What’s your local basis telling you right now—strength, weakness, or something in between?

Water is the limiting factor here.

Standing next to a well in eastern Arkansas, we’re looking at a system where groundwater levels have dropped dramatically—and where every decision starts with water, not yield.

This is what rice production looks like in the Delta:
• Managing water depth daily
• Monitoring wells and pumping costs
• Adapting practices to extend the aquifer

It’s a different system than the Corn Belt—but the goal is the same: build something that lasts.

This was one of the most eye-opening stops in our Lessons From the Delta series.

❓Question:
If water became your biggest constraint…what would you change first?

Livestock producers are nearly 40 points more optimistic than crop producers right now.

But when it comes to long-term growth and succession, both groups are making remarkably similar decisions.
