Hello YouTube, I have a question for you!! TLDR: how do you prefer the audio of long-form content?
I know it’s been…well…a really freaking long time since I posted any long form content. But it’s not because I’ve forsaken you! It’s just long content takes longer to make - especially when most of the dice I make are done in 3-4 different casting stages across a couple of weeks.
Regardless! In a bid to start getting used to filming longer content again, I recorded a casting session last week. Without speeding up the video it’s over 45 minutes long. So what I’m wondering is whether you all would prefer long videos partially voiced over to explain what I’m doing at certain points, or the full 45 minutes voiced over, or just adding some background music without any vocal explanation about what’s happening.
I’m also open to any other thoughts or ideas you might have, so please let me know! 🥰
As a small lament to hubris, I wanted to show the results of my astronaut d20!! He’s super cute and the d20 looks great, except…if you look a little closer…🤔
About 7 teeny tiny little bubbles ended up caught in front of him. Why? Well because when I filled the cavity of the blank it didn’t fill the entire way and a small gap/divot was left. I had a choice to either cast again and fill the entirety of the blank, or just pour some resin into the remaining divot and pop it into my dice mold - hoping all bubbles would escape. I chose the easier route and ended up with a couple of bubbles to show for it. Gosh darn it. And with no one to blame but myself! 😂
So I had to consider whether it would be worth attempting to de-laminate the blank and remove the new resin shell to attempt casting again, or just to leave it as is. I am still tempted to de-laminate because of the perfectionist in me, but it comes with a risk of breaking the astronaut figure’s arms or failing to get to the bubbles. Ultimately, the bubbles are incredibly tiny and honestly don’t look “bad” so I don’t think the risk is worth it of delaminating. The die is still cute and usable whereas continuing to mess with it could permanently ruin the design, so I’ll take my mistake on the chin and use this lesson learned to take the patient road next time.
Anyway, if you made it this far, what should we name this astronaut?? He deserves a name for all that he and I have been though together 😂
Hi everyone, little while no post. But don’t worry, that’s changing and I have a new video coming out tomorrow! The planet dice video has been a journey for me that technically started last summer, but I ran into so many issues while filming that I gave up on filming anything for a while.
I recently decided to go for redemption, however, and despite having a major issue with one of the casts, I ended up with a complete process video making two different planet sets! I’m so excited to finally get this video finished and out to you ☺️
Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you know a new long form video will be coming in the next couple of days. I’ve finished filming but am looking at about an hour of footage to edit down to 10-15 minutes and voiceover…so it might be a bit hahah. Hoping to get the video posted this weekend, but it might be early next week. Here are some photos from the set made in the video!
Hello everyone! I just wanted to let you know that the winner from the squishy dice video has been selected and confirmed - so the giveaway is now closed. Thank you all for participating!
For a couple little updates: I'm hoping to have a new video of making my floral porcelain skull d20 uploaded in the next few days, I just need to edit and voiceover. But it should be my next video posted and I'm aiming to finish it by Tuesday.
I am also restocking my shop this weekend with some new designs. The restock will be Sunday the 28th. Patreon members will get early access to the shop starting at 11am PT. The shop will then open to the public at 12 noon PT. If you're interested in my shop or restock process, I provide more thorough information and item previews on my Instagram.
With the start of the year, I’ve made it a goal to post more long form (and short form) content here consistently. My goal is to post one full length video every week or two, and if I’m able to post more often then great!
I do have a few videos already in the works: making a porcelain cat skull d20, making squishy dice for the first time (and giving away a d20 wooo), and making my liquid core boba dice.
I also have a few videos requested/planned: pressure pot 101, making monarch butterfly dice, making chonky liquid core d20s, and how I sand/polish my dice.
Filming videos, especially for the in-depth designs that take multiple casting steps, can be extremely challenging. The planet dice I recently posted as a short started as a long form video months ago that had to be scrapped. But despite it, I have been really enjoying posting more often and experimenting with different content formats. I do hope to improve audio and video quality where I can over the year as well. Thanks for joining me on this little journey and for all your support thus far!!
