NEW CASE FILE: The Bakersfield Hostage Crisis 🚨

15 hours. 10 hostages. A bomb that wasn't real — and a demand that told the whole story: he didn't ask for money or a getaway car. He asked for his own case file.

On June 2, a man who spent months on YouTube claiming he was framed walked into a downtown Bakersfield office building and took 10 school-system employees hostage. At 4:30 AM the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team went in.

Every hostage walked out. He didn't.

⚖️ THE RULING IS IN — if you voted "testing granted," you called it. And Judge McCaslin didn't stop there. Three rulings in one hearing:

🧬 The fingernail DNA goes to Othram for independent testing
📍 The retrial is MOVED out of the 14th Circuit entirely
🎙️ And his own 2023 testimony — the tangled-web moment, all of it — comes in against him in April

One hearing just reshaped the whole retrial. Full breakdown in the updated case file: camviction.com/blog/alex-murdaugh-case

⚖️ THE RULING TO WATCH THIS WEEK: Friday morning, Judge McCaslin decides whether Alex Murdaugh's defense gets independent DNA testing of the unknown male DNA found under Maggie's fingernails — the one genuinely new piece of the retrial. The state calls it a "boondoggle." The defense says it could name an alternative suspect. What's your call?

New case file: Sarah Boone.

On the night of February 23, 2020, Jorge Torres Jr., 42, was zipped inside a suitcase in a Winter Park, Florida apartment. He never got out.

She filmed it. Those recordings became the case.

A jury convicted her of second-degree murder in October 2024, and she's serving life. What most coverage misses: her appeal is still live. Briefs are filed in Florida's Sixth District Court of Appeal — no ruling yet.
