Hi again! The surgery is finished and I've been discharged from the hospital, though the doctor ordered that I get sufficient bed rest for a week, so I'm currently staying with family.
I can now watch Fubuki streams again (Yaaay) but I won't be able to live TL, mainly because I'll be watching off a mobile device and it's pretty hard for me to TL live using it. But I'll see how it goes and if I can figure a way around it I might jump back onto it.
I'll definitely be back by Friday evening (JST) at the earliest so I should be able to resume doing what I usually do by then. :)
So, been a while since the last community post but some news I'd like to share:
I've been having some complications which I'd like to decline to mention for the past month and I just got it checked, and my doctor told me I'll have to go for surgery and that it'll take maybe about 4-5 days to recover.
It's not like, super serious or deadly, but just a heads up that I'm basically gonna be out of comission for a while and will likely not be able to TL for Fubuki on her livestreams. Now hopefully I'll be able to but I think it's not likely given that it's a surgery after all, though I'll try to catch streams and comment normally if I can.
And no need to worry, it ain't cancer or anything and I'm not actually at risk of death or anything.
So apparently, I've gotten shadowbanned just after midway through Fubuki's Phasmophobia Lv100 grinding stream just the other day, and it hasn't been lifted. :(
So here's what I've noticed so far regarding the ban: 1. Any comments I type in English (extending to emotes) seem to disappear and don't show up in Top Chat or even Live Chat (as far as I can tell after trying to check with a second browser) 2. Any Japanese comments I type go through and appear normally. 3. This could probably be a result of YouTube AI flagging me as a spammer by accident? But I'm not too sure or knowledgeable enough about it to confirm if that's the case.
So sadly, as a result of this, I probably won't be able to live-translate outside of if you're in the Discord group for Holofans or Shirakami Land (discord.gg/shirakami-land) I don't really know how long the shadowban will last until (I've been told it could be just 24 hours if I'm lucky) but I tried to comment in Fubuki's announcement stream just now and it seems like I'm still banned.
Just wanted to post this here for all of you who usually follow me for live TLs in Fubuki's streams, just in case you guys are wondering where I went.
And a few other things I've been asked and have answered : Q1. Why don't I just make another account? A1. I don't really want to, and without Membership, that account would be stuck behind Slow Mode and I won't be able to provide translations that can keep up.
Q2. Why don't you just buy membership for the alt account? A2. Well, I can't really afford it, and I don't like the idea of making multiple alts because it can add up the cost, even if I really want to do it for Fubuki.
Hello! If you're reading this and are a fan of Hololive, I'm Des P. and I usually translate for Shirakami Fubuki (Hololive Gen 1 / Gamers) during her streams! I am in no way an official translator for Hololive (but I do work as a Japanese to English translator as my day job), I'm just a big fan of her content and wanted to help her the best way I know how: Translating.
However, recently there have been slight issues occuring, where I'm being impersonated by bots, and at times, actual people (these are all haters, trolls, and antis if we are to borrow the term they use to refer to haters in Japanese). These people have recently been joining Fubuki's livestream chat and impersonating me to spam out fake translations, or at times even harassing Fubuki / other fans / me directly (for example shit talking, directly @me and calling me a fake and marking other bots as "real translators".
Why do they want to do so? I'm not quite sure myself. Maybe it's cause they want to create a rift between Fubuki and her international fanbase (us), maybe they want us to react and start a fight, thereby interrupting the stream. However, we should try our best to ignore and not feed them.
These bots & impersonators are not me. Attached in this picture you can see that there are 2 different Des P.s translating (and at times, there might be more). How you can tell me apart from the fakes/impersonators is that in Fubuki's livestream chat, I have a green name and badge as I joined her membership (you can see in the picture that the Des P. up top is a fake. It's a bot that's copying my live translations from a different stream and spamming them in this one) while the bottom is the real me.
Now it's very sad that all this is happening over what really is a minor issue that I won't go into detail -because that's besides the point- but the point here is that I'd like to bring awareness on a couple of things: 1. If you rely on my translations during Fubuki's stream, you can tell me apart from the fakes by checking if my name is in green (signifying membership). However, that only applies on PC. If you're on mobile and watching through the YouTube App, then you'll need to check for the badge next to my name. 2. Please try to avoid engaging these bots as much as possible. They thrive on trolling and getting people to react to them like attention seekers because they want people to argue and fight. Just Block, Report, and Ignore them as best you can (though I understand if you are tired out from dealing with these cockroaches). 3. There ARE people who will react and engage with these bots, and it's up to you on how you'd like to handle it, really, because you might prefer to ignore them outright, or you might want to guide them away from the bots. However, please keep in mind some of the people who react might actually be bots as well, or trolls/haters/antis themselves. 4. If you're on desktop, you can use chat filter extensions like ytcFilter and other similar extensions to filter chat out, although how you approach it is up to you, and I have no idea how some of the extensions handle cases of people with same/similar names.
Finally, I'd like to thank all the other Fubuki and Hololive fans as a whole. Thanks for supporting Hololive and our best friend Fubuki through thick and thin, and to those who constantly try to redirect people who are confused by the fake translations thrown out by the bots/haters and also trying to counter the haters for my sake (or perhaps for Fubuki's sake), thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your help! I'm gonna keep translating for Fubuki as much as I can, always. Big thanks to Fubuki as well for always streaming and providing really great and uplifting content during these troubling times. Best fox friend ever!
Some additional info, as sadly I may not always be around in Fubuki's streams (either due to work or other commitments): If you see someone with my name, make sure to verify if it's actually me (via membership and badge). I may not always be around to translate or sometimes choose not to translate (for example, very chaotic collab streams with many Hololivers like the recent Surgeon Simulator 2 stream with Fubuki, Mio, Ayame, and Watame).
