Disquiet and Dragons

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well?

This is a hard post to write so I think I'll get straight to the point. I think I'm done with my Booktube channel.

It's a culmination of several things that seem to have all converged at the same time and it's made things difficult for me, the last couple of months have been pretty rough.

The reason most relevant to the channel is I've fallen out of love with reading, apart from a couple of re-reads and Project Hail Mary reading hasn't filled me with joy like it used to, at times it has felt dull and at it's worst an absolute chore. This has made making videos pretty difficult at times and I can't in good conscience expect people to spend their valuable time watching my videos when my hearts not in it, it's not fair on anyone. I'm sure in time I'll get back to enjoying books again but in the meantime my reading glasses are being placed back in their case. I think part of the reason is I tried to change the way I read, trying to power through books in order to make a video or having a TBR, it was anathema to the way I normally enjoy books. If I'm not enjoying it then I think my time is too precious to waste trying to force it.

The next reason is a bit more personal so I won't go into too much detail. My health this year hasn't been great, I was having severe headaches and migraines most of the time so I've made a concerted effort to improve my health which is taking a lot of time, effort and discipline, you can probably guess it hasn't left much time for other hobbies. On top of the physical side my mental health hasn't been great, there have been times in the last 6 weeks where I've been an absolute wreck so I'm working on that side of things before it gets out of control. My closest friend has been so kind and been there for me whenever I've needed a shoulder to cry on (Sarah, if you ever read this you're amazing, love you). I've got stuff to work out but I'll be ok.

There are other things but I've gone through the main reasons, I was going to put this in a video but I struggled to sit in front of the camera hence this post, hope you understand.

I'd like to thank everyone who has ever watched or commented on a video, it really did mean a lot to me that you spent your time listening to me waffle on about books. I've also met some amazing people through booktube, some of whom I'm lucky enough to call my friend, I won't name names but I'm pretty sure you know who you are :)

Anyways, I think this is about as long a wall of text as I'm willing to inflict on you, thanks for reading and you all take care.

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well?

Just to let you know that the Disquiet and Dragons discord server is up and running. It has categories for my James Herbert readalong that will be starting in December with The Rats, there are also general chat, book chat and hobby chat channels.

Something else that's new on the Discord is the start of the D&D book club, each month there will be a poll for which book we will read, we are currently voting for our January 2025 read which will be science fiction. There will be lots of different genres, science fiction, historical fiction, non-fiction, fantasy and horror. I don't want to clash with the fantasy group reads that  ‪@Shelf-Esteem‬ ​ or the horror reads that Fright Club ( ‪@CliffsDarkGems‬ ​ and  ‪@Kritz_Reads‬ ​ discord book club) are organising hence lots of different genres. Please check out those channels as they are all amazing and the book clubs and group reads they organise are brilliant fun.

And as if our tbrs aren't full enough as it is we are also starting a casual readalong of Red Rising by Pierce Brown, if that sounds like something you would like head over to the discord, we'll be starting it pretty soon.

The Disquiet and Dragons discord is a small but growing community and everyone there is so kind and friendly, hopefully we can all make it an awesome little extension of the booktube community.

It's a 'read a ghost story by the fireplace as the autumnal nights draw in' kind of evening here in England.

I started Dark Matter by Michelle Paver for the Spooky Scary Skeleton Halloween Readathon ghost prompt, I'm so glad I chose it.

All being well a readathon update video should be up on Sunday.
