Cali Umbel's journey is far from over.
Before her first surgery, Cali's pituitary tumor measured an astonishing 6.5 cm. One of the largest pituitary tumors many patients will ever hear about. While her initial surgery helped, residual tumor remains in a particularly challenging location.
On July 16th, Cali will undergo additional surgery with Dr. Juan Fernandez-Miranda (Dr. JFM) at Stanford Medicine. The plan includes another endoscopic endonasal procedure through the nose, along with a bicoronal craniotomy to safely access tumor located lateral to the carotid artery.
If you've been following Cali's story, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she takes this next step. 🙏
Cali, I'm rooting for you the whole way. Your courage, resilience, and willingness to share your journey are helping countless patients feel less alone.

And stay tuned for Part 2, where we'll reconnect after her recovery to talk about the surgery, healing process, and what's next in her journey.
We're all in your corner, Cali. You've got this. ❤️

🧠 One of the most common questions pituitary patients ask is: "How do surgeons actually reach the tumor?"
In this carousel, Stanford Medicine Skull Base Surgeon Dr. Peter Hwang walks us through the modern approach to pituitary surgery and explains why it takes a team of specialists working together to achieve the best outcomes.
You'll learn:
✅ Why the nose is often the natural pathway
✅ The critical role of the ENT surgeon
✅ How neurosurgeons remove pituitary tumors
✅ The delicate anatomy surgeons work around
✅ The real goals of surgery beyond simply removing the tumor
✅ Why successful outcomes come from great teams
As a pituitary patient myself, I know how intimidating surgery can feel. My goal is to help bridge the gap between patients and experts by bringing you trusted information directly from leaders in the field.

⭐ 10 years. One diagnosis. Countless lessons learned.
While I live with acromegaly, many people living with pituitary disorders face similar challenges. Delayed diagnoses, brain fog, fatigue, uncertainty, and learning how to advocate for themselves.
These are the realizations I wish someone had shared with me on day one of my journey. 💙
