Sarah Kroger, a nashville-based, catholic worship leader and songwriter who has released five albums: your time (2011), hallelujah is our song (2013), bloom (2019), light (2020), london sessions (2023), and a new reality (2024), my beloved child lullaby and advent:hymns (2025).

Kroger’s love for music was sparked at a young age but the impact of bullying coupled with her struggle with anxiety and shyness hid her musical gift for years. Everything changed when she met Jesus in an intimate encounter through worship at a youth conference; “Worship became my language with God,” she explains. “It allowed me to communicate with the Lord in a way I hadn’t experienced before, there was something about it that opened my heart.” Kroger’s passion is to create a safe and prayerful space through her music in which people can encounter the heart of God in a profound way and gives new language to relationship with Jesus, inspiring her listeners to say yes to vulnerability, intimacy, and honesty.

We hardly have the words to describe August 2nd, 2025. But we will try.

In the morning, Pope Leo generously took some time to gather with the musical artists who were performing at the Jubilee Vigil.

He started by saying “I wanted to have this small, let’s say ‘family-like,’ meeting with you this morning, being aware of the beauty, the art, the music—all your talents—that you offer to the great crowd we have here in Rome these days. For me, it is a privilege, a blessing to be able to take part in this mission, in this service, as the Bishop of Rome, as the Holy Father.”

We felt the same. What a blessing and privilege.

Later that day, we went outside of Rome to Tor Vergata, the site of the Vigil. Being there was surreal, as it’s the same site where Pope John Paul II delivered the famous quote that has meant so much to the two of us throughout our lives … “it is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise…”

Now on the same grounds 25 years later, Pope Leo led all 1 million of us so powerfully through a time of prayer and discussion. He answered questions from some of the young pilgrims (what a father!). Then he led us in a time of adoration, including several minutes of complete silence. He ushered us into the presence of God with simplicity and humble devotion. The sunset, the breeze, the youth gathered from around the world. It was as peaceful and joyful a moment as I can ever remember experiencing.

He said, “As we seek what is good, let us ask him at every step: stay with us, Lord. Stay with us, because without you we cannot do the good we desire. You want our good; indeed Lord, you are our good. Those who encounter you also want others to encounter you, because your word is a light brighter than any star, illuminating even the darkest night.“

Shortly after he left the stage, we were honored to play a few songs for the crowd gathered there.

We got to experience this wild day with some of our closest friends, and we are so grateful.
