hello friends đź‘‹

This is my current read: Edward Wilson-Lee’s The Grammar of Angels.

It follows one of the Renaissance’s most enigmatic minds, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola. You may know him for the Oration on the Dignity of Man; he also moved through alchemy, angelology, and bold attempts to reconcile every wisdom tradition he could find.

What’s gripping me about Pico right now: at 23 he announced 900 theses to defend publicly in Rome; the Pope halted the event and condemned several as heretical.

He fled, was arrested in France, and was later rescued by Lorenzo de’ Medici.

He studied Greek, Latin, Hebrew, and Kabbalah, trying to braid Plato, Aristotle, Moses, and the magi into one system.

He died at 31, and modern tests have suggested arsenic poisoning, which keeps the mystery alive.

Hello friends đź‘‹

I’ve been reading A Philosophy of Walking by Frédéric Gros and just released a video inspired by it. If you haven’t watched it yet, you’ll find the link below — have a look and let me know what you think. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the ideas in the book and how they connect to slowing down, focus, and attention.

One more thing before I go: I’m slowly reviving this channel. You may have noticed I’ve been posting more often lately — that’s because I’ve finally found a clear way to create and share everything I’ve wanted to. I’m back, and I can’t wait to keep walking this path with you.

Hello friends,

A quick question to all of you, please help. YouTube now allows podcasts to be uploaded to the channels.

I opted in and now you can see those episodes on my channel on a separate tab above, but they also get recommended on your homescreen.

âť“ THE QUESTION: Can you easily distinguish what is a podcast episode and what is not? Do you get confused when you click on a thumbnail and get an audio recording? Or, it is all clear to you what is what? :)

I am wondering if I should turn the podcast off... so you don't feel mislead by YouTube's confusing feature.

Let me know in the comments, or just click on the poll below.

Auto-Intoxication: Aldous Huxley on the Art of Deep Rest

Have you ever pondered how our modern-day distractions might be slowly chipping away at the core of our being? Let's take a journey back in time and explore the profound insights of thinkers like Marcus Aurelius and Aldous Huxley.

Imagine sitting in the Colosseum, cheering on gladiators just like the ancient Romans did. But what if I told you that our obsession with modern entertainment mirrors this ancient spectacle? We've become spectators in our own lives, passively consuming whatever is served to us on screens.

Aldous Huxley, in his timeless essay, warns us of the dangers lurking within our own leisure activities. He challenges us to rethink the true meaning of rest and recreation. Are we strengthening ourselves for action, or merely indulging in mindless distractions?

I explore how our modern-leisure is killing our creativity in this edition of my newsletter 👉

Hello friends,

I wanted to share this great breakdown of Ripley, a TV show released on Netflix recently that blew my mind!

The cinematography, music, acting - everything was absolutely stunning about this show. Every frame was different from the other.

I'm not even mentioning here how masterfully Zaillian uses masterpieces of art to tell the story.

This show is just mind blowing.

Hello friends,

In the latest edition of my newsletter I focus on Why Dictators LOVE eBooks.

In December 2023, two Russian writers were banned from selling their books after they admitted that they supported Kyiv's fight for independence. What particularly caught my attention was that the largest eBook seller in Russia said that they could remove the banned books from the devices of the users who already bought them if they wanted to.

I think this danger exists not only in Russia, but everywhere. We shouldn't fool ourselves into thinking that we actually own our digital content.

This is what I explore in my newsletter in detail and I suggest some simple ways how we could protect ourselves from such future dystopia.
