Officially a QUALIFIED MOUNTAIN LEADER 🥳✨⛰️

I spent the last week in the glorious mountains of Eryri being assessed over five days to qualify as an ML meaning I can lead and guide people in the mountains 🤩.

I really wasn’t sure after months of not hiking, camping or climbing whether I was recovered enough let alone prepared for my assessment but with some gentle nudges I jfdi’d it and despite the people pleaser in me desperately wanting feedback all week absolutely loved and needed the challenge of being assessed for something I’ve been working towards for nearly two years for!

I’m super proud I am now officially qualified and can keep building @made_wild_adventures and sharing the mountains with you guys! It was an intense and tough week in the mountains and sooo many times I really had to convince myself I deserved to be there but we made it... wooooo

Thanks to @mountainindependence for the support (and awesome post week cake 🎂) and @danlanemountaineering and @summit.sense for being awesome assessors and making the week so fun!

Mountains… we’re back babyyyyyy 😎🥾⛰️🙌🏻❤️

Part 2…

It’s been a wild ride going from ‘never stepped foot or taken any interest into the outdoors’ to making it my whole personality (as well as handstands) and after a long few months injured and unable to really do anything it’s time to get back out there.

My body is still not 100% but my mind absolutely is ready to be back in my happy place. Not the niche ‘just saying it’ happy place. I genuinely feel like the happiest, most at peace and capable version of myself in the mountains.

I’ve been impatiently giving my body the time it needs to get better and it’s given me a great opportunity to appreciate everything the last six years has given me. Having my mountain leader assessment has been the goalpost for my recovery keeping me sane and it’s very nearly here!

Just another step in the ever changing and surprising journey so back into the mountains I go to lose my mind and find my soul ✨

Ever wondered why calisthenics feels way harder than lifting weights? I regularly still do 😂!

Well, I just wrote about the hidden reasons bodyweight training feels impossible at first and how to actually make progress without face-planting.

If you’re like I was and yelling “I’ll never get a push-up,” this one’s for you, happy training crew 🩵 x

Getting back out there again 🧡

My first wild camp, hike and any type of incline since my injury and while my hill fitness has definitely declined 👀 and my body didn’t respond perfectly, most importantly I felt a little part of me coming back again!

My back held up spectacularly well (huge relief), though my knee and foot not so much. I also had one of those nights where I just could not sleep for absolutely no reason. As the hours ticked by and I felt I was losing my mind I was rewarded for my insomnia with the most beautiful night sky I’ve seen, so bright I could see it without my glasses on 🤓😂.

Sometimes it’s not perfect, and that’s ok because it’s still soooo worth it. Little by little we’ll get there ✨

Injury ramble incoming:

First hike since my injury (hopefully tomorrow ✨ 🤞🏻) which is so exciting but has me feeling a little ehhhhh too!

One of the hardest parts of recovering from an injury isn’t just the pain or the rehab, it’s the waiting and loss of identity. That weird limbo where you don’t feel like “you” because the thing that makes you feel most alive is temporarily out of reach.

The biggest challenge isn’t injury itself, but the identity shift that comes with it. Who am I if I can’t do the things I love most?

If you’ve ever been sidelined by injury (or even just life circumstances), you’ll know how much patience, trust, and perspective it takes to sit in that space and then how much anxiety is balanced on the potential of trying those things you love only to realise you still don’t have the ability to do them.

It can very easily become a perpetual cycle of not trying out of fear of further injury or the sadness of confirming your reduced abilities but at some point knowing it’s necessary.

I’ll share how I’ve navigated it, what’s helped and what hasn’t, once I’ve tested the waters in the next few days. But for now, I’m staying cautiously optimistic, after all I’ve got a mountain leader assessment, @made_wild_adventures trips to run and memories to make!

If you’re working through a setback of your own, keep going, progress might look different than you pictured, maybe better, maybe worse but this too shall eventually pass 🩵

Online Group Calisthenics Coaching Call!! 🤸🏻‍♀️

I’ve been toying with the idea of running online group calisthenics coaching again!

This is a way to train together, work on foundational skills (push-ups, pull-ups, handstands progressions, etc.), and keep each other motivated while also having access to on demand seminars about the fundamentals of exercise and nutrition.

It would be beginner-friendly but still challenging enough to make real progress, with weekly programming, form feedback, and accountability with other group members.

Before I go any further…
Would you be interested if I set this up or would you prefer me to wait until the mayhem of summer is over? 🩵

Took your advice and went somewhere warm where I can swim for a few days to prioritise recovery for my back and it definitely helped a lot so thank you for pushing me to take a break!

I have the next update video for how my injury is going currently in editing and will get it with you asap so I'll give you a quick update here in the meantime. Overall progress has been a lot better than anticipated. I'm still waiting for an mri date but in the meantime I have regained a lot of my mobility and through pretty rigid rehab exercises every day is getting a little better. I am able to do some exercise in the gym and walking is mostly pain free now. If anything staying still is much more painful!

Right now I am at the point where I have to make some bigger decisions on work related things that are upcoming the last few months of this year and I need to start testing out how my recovery is going to see if they are feasible or even possible (for example I have my mountain leader assessment in 5 weeks) but haven't hiked or carried any load since pre injury. If the progress is as progressive as it is at the moment then it's very much on the cards but as always with injuries its two steps forwards and one step back and this is not an injury I'm willing to mess around with.

Thank you or all your support and love, it's appreciated more than you know! ❤️

Hope everyone's having an amazing day! xx
