This beginner tutorial shows how to use Pepakura Designer and Pepakura file templates specifically to make EVA Foam cosplays.

I developed this technique over 15 years ago based on the traditional pepakura cardstock method. Even with the rise of 3D printing, interest in EVA foam cosplay continues to grow every year, often quietly. Most advanced EVA foam costumes you see online or at conventions exist because of the Pepakura EVA foam method.

Builders either learned this process directly through me or through others who later refined and shared it. I have definitely used a lot of tips that people have given me over the years to get EVA foam cosplay building where it is now. (Evil Ted, my local cosplayer friend Dave and many Filipino cosplayers out there)

If you are new to this hobby, my strongest advice is to build the sample helmet shown in the beginner tutorial. It is essential for understanding the core techniques and concepts so everything else makes sense.

Once you complete it, you can apply those same techniques to any other Pepakura file. The process of tracing templates onto foam and judging the correct cutting angles and all that is the same for nearly everything you build. I never do anything differently.

Leonidas had to have surgery to get a tooth extracted this past Monday. He got home and I was really worried these past few days because he wasn’t going to the bathroom.
I was woried his pain medication had affected his kidneys. I was ready to bring him to the emergency clinic, but he’s fine now and back to his usual self again. 🥲
