Here’s my poem entry for ‪@malanchavidyapith9155‬ ‘s writing competition!

DISCLAIMER: Poetry isn’t really my forte, but I wanted to give this a try. I wrote it pretty quickly (on the bus, actually), so apologies if it reads a little rushed. This poem is not based on my personal experiences — it’s purely fictional — so I kindly ask that no assumptions be made about me based on its content.

Anyways, here’s the poem!


i still see her smile.
not perfect, not blinding
but warm and beautiful
makes you feel loved.

i still feel her touch.
gentle yet binding
mending your shattered pieces
tender and beloved.

i still sense her warmth.
the kind that thawed a frozen heart
our souls sang as one the melody of love
a melody we never learned yet knew.

i still hear her voice.
that sweet sound that would ring
dulcet tones that would make me come undone
reminding me of the colour yellow.

i still know her grace.
she danced on the tips of her toes
like a ballerina
like a feather
light and dainty
like a ray of light
and i was the darkness, the lead, the poison
that weighed her down
but she still stayed.

i still know her kindness.
the way she would smile
always ask about me
never rude
never malicious
never angry
i could never control myself. i was a tangle of emotions
tangled like debris
yet she never left.

i still see her.
her hair swaying in the wind
tangled like the branches of a tree
eyes sparkling wide
deep as the sea
lips red as blood
like snow white
but she couldn’t be more different
for snow white was a silent doll
monochrome
and she was alive with the colours of life.

but oh, in a blink she’s gone
a fleeting hallucination i can no longer hold
chasing her
like a child chasing rainbows
i could never reach her.
she left no trace, no trail
only her mark on my heart
a scar that stings
but there is no trace but my words
leading everyone to believe she was a dream.
but i know she’s not
because i still see her smile.

I was composing and a little phrase came to my mind, but I thought it was familiar, so I spent SO LONG trying to remember where it came from, then I gave up. Now today, while doing homework and listening to music, Dear Theodosia came up, and I FINALLY found out the phrase was from there (for anyone curious, it is the bit where Burr and Hamilton sing ‘someday, someday’)
