People think I’m foolish.

They don’t come out and say it, but it shows on their faces. I read it in there befuddled surprise. I see it in their bridled disbelief.

What’s perplexing is this: I release my original work without copyright. All musical compositions, writings, and (when possible) recordings can be reused without constraint, acknowledgement, or payment. I sell no licensing. I require no credit.

This can seem like self-sabotage. Many a house has been bought thanks to royalty checks. I’m leaving money on the table not just now, but for the rest of my life (and beyond!).

But there’s the rub. I don’t present this work to make money. I give it as an offering, with the hope that it will make the world a better place.

My mission is to discover and present the beauty I’m uniquely positioned for. There’s a direct conflict between that goal and maintaining intellectual property. The more difficult I make it to share the fruits of my labor, the less easily those fruits can beautify the world.

I choose more beauty. When the work of writing, practicing, or recording is finished, let the results be enjoyed by any who might be edified by them.

Thus I present the ‘videobook’ of Honey, If It Wasn’t for You. It’s a poignantly beautiful story, and you can watch the video for free.

Money will come. I am worth more than many sparrows.
