Brazilian authorities in Rio Grande do Sul launched a major police operation against a criminal group that allegedly used AI-generated deepfake videos of supermodel Gisele Bündchen to trick victims online.
The group created fake ads and videos where a realistic version of Gisele promoted skincare and giveaway products. Thousands of people bought through social-media links but the products never arrived.
Police seized computers, mobile phones, and documents, suspecting that the gang operated across multiple states. The investigation revealed that the scammers earned millions of reais by exploiting deepfake technology to gain public trust.
