From a 45-minute voice memo to a working automation. Here's what I built this week.
A solo law firm client had a problem.
Too much of her time was going to intake calls and forms that were never going to become clients anyway.
So we fixed it.
I built a 3-branch screening system:
✅Jotform captures every enquiry with conditional logic practice area, prior representation, payment intent.
✅Make.com routes each submission automatically out of scope cases are auto-handled, complex ones trigger an instant alert, routine ones move forward on their own
▶️Next up: a conflict-check via API against existing client records, before anything reaches her desk
The result?
She only sees the enquiries that actually need her judgment. Everything else handles itself.
This is the automation I love building. Not automation for automation's sake.
Automation that gives a business owner their time back.

A VA and a Medical VA are not the same thing.
And if you're considering a career in the VA space this distinction matters.

I was once a beginner.
Here's what I wish someone told me.
→ Pick a niche
Stop offering everything to everyone. Pick one industry or one skill set and go deep. Clarity attracts clients.
→ Build a simple portfolio
No clients yet? Create sample work. Set up a mock CRM. Build a practice automation. Show what you can do before someone pays you to do it.
→ Optimise your LinkedIn
Your headline should speak to your ideal client. Your about section should tell them exactly how you can help. Show up where they are.
→ Start applying
Upwork. LinkedIn. Referrals. Cold outreach. Pick one channel and be consistent. One offer a day beats ten offers once a month.
→ Invest in learning
The VAs landing premium clients aren't the most experienced. They're the most skilled. Keep learning. Keep building.
Your first client is closer than you think.
