India and the European Union have finished the India-EU Free Trade Agreement. This is a big deal. The European Union leaders like Ursula von der Leyen call it the "mother of all deals". This agreement creates a free trade area for almost 2 billion people. It gets rid of tariffs on goods around 96 to 99 percent. The India-EU Free Trade Agreement is expected to double trade between India and the European Union. It will also help industries like textiles and pharmaceuticals. Other sectors that will benefit from the India-EU Free Trade Agreement are gems and jewellery, leather, automobiles, machinery and wine. The India-EU Free Trade Agreement is really important, for India and the European Union.

Endorsed the “Towards 2030: Joint India-EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda” a forward-looking roadmap to elevate the partnership across five pillars: prosperity & sustainability, technology & innovation, security & defence, connectivity, and global challenges, backed by enablers such as skills, mobility, business, and people-to-people ties.

Signed the first-ever overarching India-EU Security and Defence Partnership (SDP) to deepen cooperation in maritime security, defence industry & technology, cyber & hybrid threats, space security, and counterterrorism.

Launched negotiations for an India-EU Security of Information Agreement to enable secure exchange of classified information and strengthen defence & security collaboration.

Established the India-EU Task Force on Green Hydrogen and advanced clean energy cooperation under the EU-India Clean Energy and Climate Partnership, covering renewables, smart grids, energy storage, wind, solar, and disaster resilience.

Announced the India-EU Wind Business Summit for 2026 and reinforced ties with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).

Renewed the India-EU Agreement on Scientific & Technological Cooperation until 2030 and initiated exploratory talks for India’s association with the Horizon Europe research programme.

Planned creation of EU-India Innovation Hubs, an EU-India Startup Partnership, and intensified work on AI, semiconductors, quantum computing, 6G, trustworthy digital ecosystems, digital public infrastructure, and high-performance computing.

Signed the MoU on Comprehensive Framework for Cooperation on Mobility and launched the pilot European Legal Gateway Office in India as a one-stop hub to support skilled worker mobility (starting with the ICT sector).

Committed to modernising and simplifying Schengen visa procedures, mutual recognition of qualifications, expanded student & researcher exchanges (Erasmus+, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, SPARC), and launch of an Education and Skills Dialogue in 2026.

Advanced regional & global connectivity through Global Gateway, India’s MAHASAGAR initiative, India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), trilateral projects in third countries (energy, climate, digital), and a regular Aviation Corridor Dialogue.

Strengthened cooperation on circular economy, full implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, water resilience, ocean & fisheries dialogue, sustainable urbanisation, and environmental protection.

Agreed to hold India-EU Summits annually; the 17th Summit scheduled in Brussels at a mutually convenient date.

Reaffirmed joint commitment to a rules-based international order, free & open Indo-Pacific, UN Security Council and WTO reforms, counterterrorism (strongly condemning Pahalgam & Red Fort attacks), peace in Ukraine through dialogue & diplomacy, and a two-state solution in Gaza.

Highlighted deepening people-to-people links via cultural & language exchanges, EU-India Business Forum, gender balance across all pillars, and regular high-level dialogues (Trade & Technology Council, Indo-Pacific consultations, AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February 2026).
