Billing- World’s second-highest paragliding point 🪂 and Asia’s highest paragliding point at an altitude of 8000 feet. Billing is around 14 km from Bir and is a takeoff point for paragliding.

🪂 Paragliding

For paragliding, you have to go to Billing which takes around 45 minutes from Bir. The landing is done on the landing site in Bir. The pickup from your stay to Billing and dropping off from the landing site to your stay is included in the paragliding package.🚙

📌 Things to do in Billing

-Of course, paragliding is the first thing that comes to your mind. But apart from that, one can also do camping here. You can trek from Bir to Billing or directly drive up to here and go camping.🏕️

-Trek for Rajgundha Valley also starts from Billing. You can go for that too.🚶‍♀️

-Also, you can enjoy the view of Bir during sunset along with having some tea and maggi at nearby cafes. Climb to the top of the takeoff point and you will find a hidden café with the most amazing view from the top.

💁🏻‍♀️ My experience

I hired a scooter and drove till Billing. 🛵 I started my day by visiting Macchial Lake in Joginder Nagar and from there I left for Billing. So, it included a lot of driving and I got so tired on the way due to steep climbing and hairpin bends. I even thought of going back in the midway as I was exhausted and it got very cold (I was travelling in winter).❄️

But I had already come so far so I just kept going on. When I finally reached, my hands were so cold that I was not able to feel them. Also, the sun had already set so it was just a few minutes to get dark.⛅️ I ordered a maggi and tea from the nearby café and enjoyed the view from the top while eating.🍜

After a few minutes, the weather got cloudy. The view of the mountains, the city below, the orange sky along with the lightening was so mesmerizing.🏔️

On my way back, there was a cafe that lit up a bonfire. I warmed myself up before leaving for a long journey full of cold and rain. But the experience was worth remembering.🤩

Here are some beliefs regarding Baijnath temple in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh👇

✨Connection to Ravana
It is said that Ravana did tapasya and sacrificed his 10 heads to impress Lord Shiva and gain some powers. Lord Shiva appeared, restored all of his heads and granted him powers. Ravana also wanted Lord shiva to accompany him to Sri Lanka. So Lord Shiva took the form of this shivling with a condition that Ravana won’t keep shivling down until he reached the final spot.
On the way, Ravana had to answer nature’s call, so he handed over shivling to a local boy. The boy wasn’t able to handle the weight of shivling and kept the shivling on the floor. When Ravana came, he wasn’t able to lift the shivling. Disheartened, he gave up and returned. And that’s where Baijnath temple was formed.

🌟 Connection to Pandavas
Some even say that the Pandavas had also built a Shiva temple at this location only which later got destroyed by natural disasters.

🕉️ Only temple with standing Nandi
This is the only Shiva temple in the world that has a statue of standing Nandi. It is believed that whatever you speak in the ear of the statue of Nandi will directly reach the ear of Lord Shiva. You can see people here asking God to grant their wishes.

💧Holy water
It is said that water coming from this temple has medicinal properties. People drink this water or sprinkle it over their head and eyes.

🛕Architecture
The temple is built in a Nagara style architecture which is quite detailed and magnificent. Before this temple was built, there was a shrine here with shivling only.

Some other facts-
🔺Dussehra is not celebrated in Baijnath because of Ravana’s devotion to Lord Shiva.
🔺There is no jewellery shop in Baijnath as Lord Shiva hates gold. Also, lanka was made of gold which was burnt to ground by Hanuman.
