Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor and acknowledge the original inhabitants of this land, the Indigenous peoples, and their contributions to our nation.

It is important to remember that we live on the ancestral lands of our Native American friends and neighbors and to recognize their lasting contributions and resilience.

This reflection also extends to all peoples across the Americas, those who, despite the injustices of colonization, never gave up but continued to fight against systemic oppression for their rights and representation. Today, we honor their strength & their heritage.

We acknowledge that we are on the ancestral land of the Nuwuvi, the Southern Paiute People, and recognize the presence of the Mojave People in the broader region. We honor their lasting heritage and contributions to the Las Vegas region.

As some of you know, I’m from Guatemala, and tomorrow Friday, is Viernes de Dolores (Friday of Sorrows), which marks the beginning of Semana Santa — The Holy Week—in my country. For many years, Semana Santa held a special place in my heart because of my cultural background. In Guatemala, no matter your denomination, this week is important to everyone. And I wasn’t the exception.

But this year, it means even more to me. It’s a celebration of the victory of life over death. A powerful reminder that, in the end, life prevails. My grandma is 103 years old, and she was afraid she wouldn’t make it—but she’s alive, she’s healthy, and she’s a beautiful testimony that the Author of Life still reigns.

As Scripture says: “For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.” (1 Corinthians 15:25–26)

Everyone knows that New Year’s Eve is my favorite holiday. This year has been an emotional roller coaster because my 102-year-old grandma has been very sick, but she’s not giving up. She’s excited for the new year, and my whole family is happy for her.

I wish everyone a Happy New Year filled with life and light. Borrowing from Ebenezer’s words, I want to apply them to my new year ahead:

“I will honour the New Year in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The lessons of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the opportunities they bring!”

Why everyone praises Disney so much? They don’t care about diversity or minorities. They care about the money and monopolizing every film house. They pay lower salaries compared to other companies. They have been accused of animal cruelty, and so on…

If they’re changing the ethnicity of the characters, it’s to get free press and get your money. This isn’t about diversity, but about the bourgeoisie vs the proletariat.

Forced inclusion is the bourgeoisie’s favorite tactic to distract you from the truth. The one in power isn’t the white man, but the rich one.
