Working with date intelligence in Power BI?
Here’s one of the simplest ways to create a Quarter column using a single DAX formula!
Using this expression:
Qtr = FORMAT ( Dates[Date], "\QQ" )
✔ Automatically converts any date into its respective quarter
✔ No complex logic or nested functions needed
✔ Works perfectly when building a Calendar/Date table

Trick to Calculate Fiscal Quarter in Power Query
Working with fiscal years can get tricky—especially when your fiscal cycle doesn’t match the calendar year.
Here’s a simple hack to calculate fiscal quarters correctly in Power Query!
Using this formula:
= FORMAT(EDATE('Calendar'[Date], -3), "\QQ")
💡 Why “-3”?
Because India’s fiscal year ends in March, so we shift the date back by 3 months to align quarters correctly.
✔ Q1 → Apr–Jun
✔ Q2 → Jul–Sep
✔ Q3 → Oct–Dec
✔ Q4 → Jan–Mar
If your country or organization follows a different fiscal year, just adjust the month offset to match your fiscal cycle.
This tiny trick can save tons of time when building calendar tables, reports, or financial dashboards in Power BI / Power Query. 🚀
