A Truth Universally Acknowledged

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a book lover, in possession of a good read, must start a YouTube channel to blab about it.

Hi, I'm Shannon and this channel will talk about books and reading and anything else that comes into my head. This is a hobby and I do this for fun so I don't currently have a set uploading schedule and just plan on uploading as often as my schedule will allow. Thank you for watching and I look forward to connecting with you.

Unfortunately no video today. Work has been so crazy I haven’t had the brain space to film. On Friday I went down to NYC to visit the “A Lively Mind: Jane Austen at 250” exhibit at The Morgan Library curated by Juliette Wells. I got some footage of Austen’s surviving letters, a couple of personal items (some original, some reproductions), and some first editions of her books. If I can get through it all (and if the footage is good, it was crowded and there was lots of wrangling for position), I’ll try and post it this week.

Last night I watched the 1940 film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and I really enjoyed it! It was so light, bright and sparkling. By no means is it a faithful adaptation but I was having too much fun to care. Highly recommended. Have you seen it? #janeaustenjuly #prideandprejudice

Sorry for the accidental BookTube Break! Between work craziness and traveling, I haven't been able to create any content or even watch BookTube! But I've definitely been reading. I've been on a nonfiction kick lately and I've read:

◾ The Thistle and the Rose: The Extraordinary Life of Margaret Tudor by Linda Porter
◾ The Nineties by Chuck Klosterman
◾ Isabella: The Warrior Queen by Kirstin Downey
◾ The Shortest History of Israel and Palestine: From Zionism to Intifadas and the Struggle for Peace by Michael Scott-Baumann
◾ The Secret Lives of Booksellers and Librarians: True Stories of the Magic of Reading by James Patterson and Matt Eversmann
◾ Autocracy Inc.: The Dictators Who Want to Run the World by Anne Applebaum
◾ The Five: The Lives of Jack the Ripper's Women by Hallie Rubenhold

I hope to be back creating content in June and thanks for sticking with me! x Shannon

No video this week because I’m on vacation in Lisbon where I visited the world’s oldest bookstore. I purchased some Portuguese classics and they even stamped it for me. I even located some Jane Austen in Portuguese! #lisboa #fernandopessoa

One of my goals for 2025 was to read only one or two books at a time instead of having so many on the go. Twelve days in and I’m already back on my bullsh*t.

It’s a beautiful day here in MA so I went for a long walk and donated several books to Little Free Libraries in my town. #littlefreelibrary
