Let My Children Hear Music, Inc. (The Charles Mingus Institute) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the music and legacy of Charles Mingus, founded in 1989 by his widow Sue Mingus. charlesmingus.org
Jazz Workshop, Inc. is the publishing company he founded to retain control of his compositions, and continues to promote his music with Mingus Big Band, Mingus Dynasty, Mingus Orchestra, publication of new arrangements and other activities.

Today we celebrate the life of Sy Johnson, born on this day in 1930.
Sy was a legendary composer, arranger, pianist, and photographer.
Sy worked with #charlesmingus through the 1960s and 1970s. Their recording collaboration, "Let My Children Hear Music,” led to Sy being nominated for a Guggenheim Award.
After Mingus’ death, Sy worked with Sue Mingus for several decades, producing arrangements for Mingus Big Band, Mingus Orchestra, and Mingus Dynasty, including "Moanin'" and "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat." His latest arrangements can be heard on The Charles Mingus Centennial Sessions, recorded by Mingus Big Band in 2020.
Sy often had a camera in tow and is responsible for capturing several iconic photographs of Charles Mingus.
