Jussie Smollett has agreed to pay $50,000 (£37,000) to a charity in Chicago, settling a lawsuit the city had filed against him over accusations of lying about a hate crime.

Chicago police had wanted Smollett to pay $130,000 to cover the investigation costs, but on Thursday, Chicago's law department confirmed that the donation will be made instead. The money will go to Building Brighter Futures Center for the Arts, an organisation that supports Chicago's underprivileged youth.

In 2019, Smollett said he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack. But in a case that has seen many twists and turns, he was charged with lying to police. The charges were later dropped, and Smollett has always maintained it was not a hoax.

A spokesperson for the law department said: "The City believes this settlement provides a fair, constructive, and conclusive resolution, allowing all the parties to close this six-year-old chapter and move forward".

Rapper Kid Cudi took the stand Thursday for Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex-trafficking trial after his name was brought up during multiple testimonies from other witnesses.

The Grammy-winning artist, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, has been a focal point of this case due to his past fling with Combs’ ex Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, which allegedly “enraged” the rap mogul.

Cudi, 41, testified from Manhattan federal court that in January 2012, he received a call from his dog sitter between 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. local time one morning. The sitter then informed him that his “car was on fire.”

When he arrived, the “Day ‘n’ Nite” rapper said he found the driver’s side of his Porsche 911 Cabriolet had been burned and he said to himself, “Uhh, what the f–k.” A molotov cocktail — which is an incendiary device, typically a bottle filled with flammable liquid that ignites on impact — was nearby on the ground. Cudi testified that he believed Combs “had something to do” with the incident. However, the Bad Boy Records founder’s lawyers objected to his response and it was stricken from the record. The attorneys also noted that female DNA had allegedly been found on the vehicle.

The Justice Department moved Wednesday to cancel settlements with Minneapolis and Louisville that called for an overhaul of their police departments following the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor that became the catalyst for nationwide racial injustice protests in the summer of 2020.

The Trump administration also announced it was retracting the findings of Justice Department investigations into six other police departments that the Biden administration had accused of civil rights violations.

The moves represent a dramatic about-face for a department that under Democratic President Joe Biden had aggressively pushed for federal oversight of local police forces it accused of widespread abuses. The Trump administration accused previous Justice Department leadership of using flawed legal theories to judge police departments and pursuing costly and burdensome court-enforced settlements known as consent decrees to address alleged problems it argues are better dealt with at the local level.

Rapper Scott Mescudi, better known by his stage name Kid Cudi, is expected to testify at Sean "Diddy" Combs' trial this week.

Mescudi was in a relationship with Casandra "Cassie" Ventura after they met in December 2011, she testified last week. Ventura, who was in an 11-year relationship with Combs that ended in 2018, previously testified that she was “up and down” at the time of her relationship with Mescudi and stated that she and Combs “weren’t in the greatest place."

Combs found out Ventura was seeing Mescudi during a "Freak Off," she testified. “I just remember [Combs] putting a wine opener between his fingers and lunging at me,” Ventura said.

Sean “Diddy” Combs took drugs “every day” — including sometimes downing Obama-shaped ecstasy pills, his ex-personal assistant told jurors Tuesday.

Skai Jackson is asking the courts to intervene.

The Disney Channel alum, 23, has filed a request for a restraining order in L.A. County Superior Court against her son Kasai's father, Deondre Burgin, over domestic abuse allegations. TMZ was the first to report the news.

In documents obtained by PEOPLE, Jackson claimed that Burgin assaulted her earlier this month on Mother's Day, while she was holding their newborn son. She alleged that Burgin grabbed her by the hair, slammed her head against a car window and punched her in the face. Jackson also claimed that she's experienced domestic violence at the hands of Burgin throughout their relationship. Per the documents, she told the judge that she endured a six-month period where she would be abused weekly. She alleged that Burgin would choke her, scratch her and slam her head into walls.
