I urge all followers of this channel, nay rather - all devoted followers - to follow our (because its not only mine) new path. This channel will remain, but it would be inconvenient to make it active again, since it risks getting a strike for ''association'' with a banned account - therefore it will act as our collective 'museum'.
That being said; follow the Instagram where I publish mini-essays (instagram.com/tatenokaienjoyer), Twatter (x.com/MishimasGhost) where I annoy people. But most importantly the channel ''Mishimas Ghost'' where I will publish a new video soon; youtube.com/@Mishimaghost
Since Iโve noticed a rapid increase in subscribers and comments on this channel, I feel itโs time to clarify. This channel will serve as a museum. That means: no new videos will be uploaded here, and I wonโt be answering comments. This is simply to reduce the risk of the channel being taken down! The channel where Iโll continue publishing is: youtube.com/@TheShieldSociety
Short update; I've got a lot on my plate right now, which has slowed down my editing pace. Iโd rather release a well-polished video than something rushed. So, The Temple of Dawn is coming, just not as quickly as I had hoped. I'm also happy to share that Iโve started working on brand-new videosโBlessed Karl, Manchukuo and a fresh take on Imperial Japan with twist among others. Iโve also gone through the most frequently requested reuploads and created a dedicated document to keep track of them. Wishing everyone a great weekendโembrace the eternal struggle!
''An artist who actualizes all his creative possibilities, good and bad, beautiful and ugly, and succeedsโthrough the pure realization of a will to power that will not yield to anything in this worldโin condensing them into a single momentous event, the effect of which is so beautiful yet so shocking that those who contemplate it are left wondering whether it is a work of art or an act of madness, has surely achieved a masterpiece of some kind. It is, as Mishima intended it to be, a cruel and defiant masterpiece: a terror attack on the modern consciousness, a warning to the โlast humans,โ and a challenge to all those coming after Mishima who would dare to call themselves artists.''
This weekend, Iโm launching ''The Tetralogy Project''โ starting with a refreshed take on Spring Snow. The original version felt too focused on Mishima himself, leaving the book as a secondary plotline. A separate Mishima edit with the old song might still happen later. I once again would like to point out: please avoid posting video requests under published uploads. Iโve taken note of the most requested ones and will make minor improvements in time. It becomes quite annoying. If you have new requests, feel free to leave them under this video instead. For March, Iโll be publishing one video per week, til the whole project is complete. Most of it is complete, except for Temple of Dawn, which Iโm still figuring out.
Wishing you all a great weekendโI hope youโll enjoy whatโs coming!
๐จ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ by ๐ฑ๐๐๐๐ - ๐ฒ๐๐๐ ๐ฏ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ The Picture of Dorian Gray on steroids. A forgotten masterpiece, peak aesthetics, and perhaps the funniest book Iโve ever read. It delivers an incredible finale and a critique of modern bourgeois society. The book is not only worth reading because it's an outstanding work of art but also because of how it has sadly been forgotten (and outside of France, its Catholic author has been memory-holed). However, its influence on literature is immense. For example, the infamous โYellow Bookโ read by Dorian Gray which correlates with his โโactionsโโ is Against the Grain. And the writer that the protagonist in the earlier book club inclusion Submission by Houellebecq obsesses over is Huysmans.
Not for the lighthearted, not for everyone. It deals with themes of sadism, brutalization, and the conflict between intellect and action. Set in a remote village during the final years of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, the descriptions are vivid while always being sharp and never overly indulgent. Musilโs writing is incredible. Though a modernist work in some ways, it also rejects aspects of the modernist style, which I found refreshing and unique. To sum it up, it's a Bildungsroman gone rogue.
๐ต๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐จ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ The master of Japanese short fictionโhis entire oeuvre is fantastic. Bizarre, nihilistic, funny. Reading him is like indulging in a fever dream, yet it never tips over into โโweird fictionโโ and remains grounded in realism. There are many different collections in English. My favorite short stories are Hell Screen, Cogwheels, and The Nose. A master of the short form and my personal favorite.
๐ป๐๐ ๐ญ๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐จ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ช๐๐๐๐ I donโt much care for the existentialists, and neither of Camus' books left any real mark on me or my way of thinking. I disliked The Stranger (though I respect the writing)โit really left me feeling nothing. I hated The Plague. However, his least-known novel is, in my opinion, by far his best and truly a masterpiece. The writing, the structure, the themesโunlike his other works, one can enjoy The Fall without having โthe whole absurdism thingโ thrown in your face.
I do not recommend this to anyone who isnโt already deeply familiar with Mishimaโone should have read all his mandatory works and know much about his life before approaching this book. Not only will it spoil some of his novels, but it will also ruin the payoff of this one and likely leave a confused impression. Itโs not a hard read per se, but it requires a bit of intellectual elasticity to fully grasp (as it is, in the end, an academic text). Going into it, one must understand Mishima not as the writer, not as the bodybuilder, not as the madman coup-makerโbut as all of them, concentrated into one contradictory whole (though contradictions, in my view, are often not contradictions at all). What is refreshing is that this is not simply a biography or an essayโit is a work of art. Any other book about Mishima Iโve read pales in comparison. I would argue this is not only a masterpiece as an academic text but actually a masterpiece in literature itself.
As set out the goal of 1k was reached before 2025, happy new year to every one of you that are part of this great community! Let us hope this year will be a renaissance! So what is going on right now; well I am currently working on the Tetrology Project. Where Spring Snow is in final stages. I want to publish every single title one after the other, and have them reflect the themes and atmosphere of the given book. Which the original spring snow in hindsight did not (then I didnโt plan on creating videos for the other books). For the coming month or so there will continue to be re-uploads/remakes. Then, I would like to finally start creating brand new videos! ๐ผ๐จ ๐ฅ๐ง๐ค๐ข๐๐จ๐๐ once 1k was hit the third Bookclub will be published, that will hopefully be this weekend. Til then, the books of the two preceding bookclubs were: Journey to the end of the night (Cรฉline) The Sea of Fertility Tetrology and Sun and Steel (Mishima), Prussianism and Socialism (Spengler), The Crowd (Le Bon), Political Theology (Schmitt) Why Liberalism Failed (Deneen), Submission (Houellebecq), Blood Meridian (McCarthy), Harassment Architecture (Mike Ma).
I which you all a blessed Christmas. There will be one more video before the new year, and when 2025 starts I will publish the Tetrology. Let it be clear, acceleration leads to action. And when the time comes, Restoration and hopefully within our lifetime the total Reorganization! Now however, I want you all to support a channel that wen't trough the same fate as me, a channel that got nuked for NO REASON! Let us all support the Stรคndestaat expert! He didn't ask me to make this post, but I feel obliged since I find it a SHAME that he is on 66 followers when he puts out such great material! I am in a good mood, and I feel I want to promote some other channels. So please go and follow them!
