I'm always a little taken aback by the numbers YT gives me at the end of each year. To be honest I'm never sure where it gets the number from.
All I want to say is thank you so much for all of you who have stopped to listen to me and watch my attempts at good ideas over the last year. The next 12 months are going to be huge, so join me for the journey!
Trying to keep up with the YT schedule has got the better of me. Hurried a few things in recording, and it's clear that I'm just not going to be able to get a video out to a good enough standard this week. So I'm just not going to put one out.
Netter late than never, I've finally got round to uploading a remastered version of The One Who's Free (the song from the finger picking bass vid) on SoundCloud:
Is it a recording studio? Is it a storage facility? Would the very room itself be better suited to aging cheese than being my office? Yes to all of those questions!
But I think I'm finally ready to start putting videos up again!
I'm going through some big changes in my life right now, with moving city and all sorts. It's really exciting, but I've realised over the last few days that I'm going to need a few weeks before I have a chance to finish any more videos.
That means there's going to be no video today, and probably not for the few weeks after. I'll be back on it asap though!
In the meantime, I'd love to know what (if any) you've enjoyed of my recent video styles:
In amongst the excitement of my last video doing so well, I'd like to thank all the people who, according to my analytics, came over from TalkBass.com! If one of you could show me where it was posted on the site I'd be really grateful #Talkbass#solobass
After some deep soul-searching, some exciting opportunities and a lot of scary things, I've made some big decisions about my creative work going forward.
After thinking about how I can work most effectively to make the most of my strengths and abilities, I'm going to spend this year showing off my bass playing everywhere I can, making the very most of my songwriting, and putting my own spin on how I present that work. I can write a song in an hour and love collaboration and gigging, so I need to be making sure I'm doing those things as much as possible.
As it stands, while I consider my Weekly Nonsense the purest form of my creative expression, it's been taking about half of my working time to do one each fortnight. While I love doing them, they stop me from doing and often even thinking about all of the other (in fairness higher priority) work which I should be focussing on. While I'm really proud of some of those videos, I've made 44 of them now(!), and there doesn't seem to be any traction growing with them at all.
With that it pains me (and by the looks of the view count, very few other people) to say that I'm going to be stopping doing Mark's Weekly Nonsense for the foreseeable future. I hope to restart them once I can afford an editor (that's what takes most of the time), and I'll obviously keep doing things along those lines in my own time because it's just how I live.
Thankfully I also absolutely love writing music and performing, so expect to see all sorts coming out about those things!

A bit last minute, but just in case you physically exist in or near London this coming week:
I'm playing a few songs at New Harvest folk night at the Gypsy Queen (NW5 4BS) on Monday night. Nothing massive, but it would be great to see you!
