Did You Know!

Not all lead crystal will be stamped with a makers mark.

For example, out of a set of 6 drinking glasses, only 4 of the glasses might be stamped on the base by the maker.

Accidents Happen!

This is the sad and heartbreaking part of dealing with glass.

I have been cleaning and preparing my glass for photographs today and this small drinking glass found itself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It doesn’t matter how careful you are, there are going to be times when these items will get damaged or break.

It can be upsetting and frustrating, but it is a part of the journey when dealing with fragile items.

It is a challenging part of the journey, but this is the risk when selling glass.

Antique Of The Week! Ships Decanter

Here is a ships decanter.

These decanters can be identified by their distinctive wide flat base.
They are traditionally made of thick durable glass to make them sturdy and practical.

Ships decanters were invented at the end of the 18th Century for the use on ships. The wide flat base keeps the decanter stable during rough seas.
Ships were away for many months so the ships decanter enabled passengers to enjoy their favourite tipple.

Did You Know! Crazing On Pottery

In this picture you can see tiny cracks in the glaze of the pottery. This is called crazing.

This happens when tiny cracks appear in the glaze, mainly due to age. However this can also be a result of temperature changes, rough handling of the item or moisture damage.

Antique Of The Week! Brass Bell

Here is a vintage brass bell. This is a Tibetan brass bell from the 1940s.

These Asian Buddhist bells are used as a meditation bell during meditation and other spiritual practices.

This bell has a solid brass handle and you can see the patina on the brass.
