Hi, I'm Summer Rayne Oakes. I started 'Plant One On Me' back in February 2017 to help answer houseplant care questions at my kitchen table with my iPhone 7. Since that time, the YouTube channel has expanded in scope and depth, featuring regular episodes that share the beauty of plants with the people who love them.
Our mission is to bring people closer to plants by bringing plants closer to them through engaging, entertaining, and educational content. You'll see houseplant tips, home tours, plant unboxings, field trips to botanical gardens, and more on this channel.
Starting in 2021, 1% of our Google AdSense revenue goes towards plant conservation initiatives.

Hi Folks, I've been on an extended hiatus from the channel, as you may have been able to tell. It started off as expectedājust freeing up some time to work on another work project and also manage renovations at āŖ@FlockFingerLakesā¬. However, after getting home from our group botanical trip to Thailand in February, I learned one of my family members had unusual complications after a routine surgery and had to go back to the hospital ASAP, where they unfortunately remain. It was unexpected and has been very preoccupying for both me and my family. No need to feel sorry or the likeāthis is how life rolls, but I just wanted to be aboveboard with the extended lull in video production here. That being said, we will have new videos releasing this month, (including tomorrow), so do check back in. Thank you so much for your good thoughts, prayers, and your continued support!

We have ONE early-bird spot left on our group Botanical Tour to Colombia next year in February 2027. We have a special trip lined up that will involve a number of botanical gardens and hiking through three of the country's eco-regions to see quite a range of plants. Hope you'll consider joining on either this trip or our Costa Rica adventure: bit.ly/colombiafeb2027

We just have a couple early bird spots left for our Group Botanical Tour to Costa Rica this coming December 2026. The last trip this past December was so much fun, we decided to do a Part Deux: bit.ly/4ty7Vqi ā we added two more activities for the entire group, including a walking tour through the old growth forest in the lowlands, which adds a different perspective from the high altitude montane old growth forests we saw on past trips. Other highlights include behind-the-scenes tours at botanic gardens, including the preeminent orchid facility, where we'll see how they do tissue culture and what endemic and native species they are growing in their private greenhouses.

Hey friends,
Iāll be taking a little time off from film production here on āPlant One On Me.ā I had meant to take a break earlier in the year to work on a project, but that didnāt quite work out as planned. ( Hahaāyou know how it goes! ) Iām not taking off completely, but the videos will come out with some irregularity.
We also just finished building our chicken coop and successfully got in our first rescue birds (all of whom we brought in from Brooklyn). Now I want to spend ALL my time with them because they are SO much fun. Animals, like plants, are my zen zone; and we've been working towards this coop ā a sort of homage to my late foster hen and companion, Kippee. If youāre curious how the coop turned out, you can see it here: https://youtu.be/KLxLz_jlwak ⦠Weāll still be producing videos with regularity on our sister channel @FlockFingerLakes youtube.com/c/flockfingerlakes, so you can check out vids there too, if it so moves you. Weāve filmed quite a number of lovely garden tours that we will be releasing throughout the winter months.
Iām heading to Costa Rica soon on one of our group botanical trips, so youāll be seeing some updates from that; and within a couple short months we will be doing the long-awaited group botanical tours to Thailand and later in the year to Japan. These group tours have been so delightful, very educational; and quite a lot of friendships have been forged, so Iām keen on doing more. (BTW, a few spots are available on each of those trips if you're interested in a vacay in 2026: homesteadbrooklyn.com/botanical-tours). But if not this year, maybe next!
Thanks for all your awesome support. Truly grateful that others have a shared love for this type of educational content. Wishing you all a lovely end of 2025 and beautiful New Year.

We have a few openings on our Thailand Botanical Trip this February 17-23 2026. So if youāre keen to see & talk plants with fellow plant lovers, do consider coming!
On this trip, weāll experience the Chatuchak Plant Market together, which is really the market for one-of-a-kind plants in Thailand. Additionally, weāll be taking the train from Bangkok to one of my favorite locationsāChiang Maiāwhere weāll get a personal tour of Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden and hike fairytale moss forests and see lush waterfalls throughout Doi Inthanon National Park. Weāll get a full dose of culture, plants and food on this trip with a great group of people. If interested, you can reserve your spot here: bit.ly/4jiI8wk
