Hey y'all, Dixie here! This channel began with my journey of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail (AT) from Georgia to Maine. Since then I've documented the Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Divide Trail, The Camino de Santiago (French Way), Pinhoti Trail, Florida Trail, Foothills Trail, Kilimanjaro, The West Highland Way and several shorter hikes. Most of my backpacking adventures involve long distance thru-hiking, but in between hikes I post informational videos that include the most basic backpacking info, my mistakes, gear reviews, and thru-hiking tips. I hope documenting my backpacking journeys and sharing everything I know gives you the push you need to get out there!
New videos are uploaded every week! Happy Trails :)

Hey y'all! I hope you join me today at 3pm Eastern/2pm Central to watch my new documentary from the West Highland Way!
I decided to post it as a Premiere so I can watch it with you and chat with everybody. I'm so excited to share this with you and I hope to see everyone there!
(Based on the impressions analytics a majority of the people subscribed to this channel still have no idea I recently released a documentary from Iceland so I hope you don't mind if I try to do a better job of getting the word out on this one 🙂)

Well it finally happened after 8 years of offering the HW Neck Knife.
A woman got knife number 069 😂
I don’t remember who it was, but a man told me several years ago that he bet only a man would ever choose that knife number. If I’m correct his prediction has been accurate until this year.
Anyway, there are only about 30 left. If you’d like one in time for Christmas be sure to jump on it soon!

For the people asking, the Sony A7 IV (amzn.to/4dLbHng) is the main camera I used in Iceland.
I should mention that since that trip I have switched to this one—
Sony Alpha 7C II: amzn.to/403Sc68
They are both great cameras and have the same image quality. I only switched to save weight (the 7C II is lighter) 📸

In case you missed it, a couple of days ago I released a new feature-length hiking documentary from Iceland. This was probably the most visually stunning backpacking trip in my life. The documentary has about 30 minutes more footage than all the vlogs I posted from Iceland combined - so if you saw those videos this is a much different experience, and if you never saw them this would probably be a better way to catch up! I hope you enjoy 😊

He’s FINALLY here!
Bratcher Winfield Hawkins made his way into the world at 10:04pm on September 28th 🩵
Weight: 8lb 2oz
Length: 21.2”
We had to spend 4 days in the NICU because he had amniotic fluid in his lungs, but that was his first lesson in resiliency and he passed with flying colors 💪🏻 So relieved to finally be at home with my son.
I’ve announced our upcoming hiking plans on the AZT and some pics of my family’s most recent addition in my last video!

Out in the woods today recording a video and taking a little nature walk. Hoping that raising my oxytocin levels and the full moon will make this baby decide to come into the world 😜😅

Do you take an umbrella on your backpacking trips?

In reference to my last video, this will be the next umbrella I purchase for hiking adventures. It’s is 50+ UPF, but also intended for use in the rain. It only weighs 6.8 ounces with 37” of coverage. The frame is made from carbon fiber. If you’re not going to be backpacking in exposed areas then you might prefer something else, but for multi-purpose reasons this one is pretty solid.
