DOSEfashions Academy

Today was Nothing Short of Amazing as we teach CIRLCLE AND IT'S VARIATIONS in depth on our YóuTúbe Channel, DOSEfashions Academy.

It's 2Hours plus LIVE session.

And I love the fact that we took our time to explain the Calculations, the Folds and the Cutting from 90degrees to 1440degrees.

2Hours stretch teaching is not a joke because I had to pause to take water at some point but I am glad of the impact it made on sewists/creative minds.

CIRCLES IS AN INTERESTING TOPIC NO DESIGNER SHOULD JOKE WITH✍️✍️

Will you be seeing the live video if we make it available on the channel incase you miss the live session⁉️👇

Repping the season with my beautiful Xmas Jacket and wide leg pant masterpiece.🤗

To cut a correct circle skirt, three things must be right: the calculation, the fold, and the grainline.
If one is wròng, the skirt will show it.

The High-Low Hemline: More Than Just a Trend – It’s Strategic Design! 📈👗

Let's talk about a design feature that's both chic and incredibly versatile: the High-Low Hemline.

You've seen it everywhere—on elegant gowns, casual skirts, and modern peplums. But what makes a perfect high-low, and how do you draft it so it drapes beautifully without looking awkward?

✍️It's not just about cutting shorter in the front and longer in the back; it's about understanding line, balance, and the physics of fabric drape.

.

◾️Why the High-Low Hemline is a Pattern-Making Marvel:

👉Visual Interest & Movement: It creates dynamic movement and allows for a stunning reveal of footwear in the front, while maintaining elegance and coverage in the back.

👉Strategic Styling: Perfect for showcasing leg length, adding drama to an outfit, or creating a contemporary twist on classic silhouettes.

.

📍📍The Drafting Challenge: Achieving that smooth, continuous curve—especially when combined with pleats, gathers, or a full circle—requires precision.

◾️This is where your understanding of radius and fabric volume becomes crucial.

Asymmetrical Magic: Whether it's a gentle dip or a dramatic cascade, mastering the high-low teaches you about asymmetrical balance, a key skill for any aspiring designer.

💥💥💥
Ready to Master the Curve?
Don't just admire high-lows—learn to create them! Want to unlock the secrets to designing and drafting high-low hemlines, perfect circles, and elegant pleats?

It all starts with the foundational principles we're teaching in our upcoming Masterclass.

✨ Understanding One-Shoulder Draped Gowns ✨

One-shoulder draped gowns are timeless because they combine asymmetry, soft draping, and a clean silhouette — a perfect balance of structure and fluidity.

In pattern drafting, this style teaches you: ✔️ How to create an asymmetric neckline
✔️ How to convert darts into controlled drapes
✔️ How to draft gowns with no waist joining for a seamless finish
✔️ How to use the slash-and-spread technique professionally

This technique is widely used for evening wear, bridesmaids’ dresses, and couture-inspired designs.

🎥 A detailed step-by-step tutorial will be live tomorrow on DOSEfashions Academy TV.
Make sure you’re following and subscribed so you don’t miss it ✂️💛

🧵✨ Quick Steps: How to Wind a Perfect Bobbin ✨🧵

Tired of uneven bobbins and stitch problems? Try these simple steps for a smooth, balanced bobbin every time:

1. Set up — Place your empty bobbin on the bobbin winder pin. Put your thread spool on the spool pin.

2. Thread the tension disc — Pass the thread through the bobbin winder tension disc (or thread guide). This controls tension while winding.

3. Anchor the thread — Wrap the thread around the bobbin a couple of times by hand to secure the start.

4. Engage the winder — Push the bobbin to the right (or follow your machine’s winder action) to lock the winder in place.

5. Wind slowly & evenly — Press the foot pedal gently or start the motor. Watch the thread fill the bobbin from the center outward. If it piles on one side, stop and guide the thread lightly with your finger.

6. Stop at ¾–full — Fill about 3/4 full for even tension (or full if your machine prefers).

7. Cut & remove — Cut the thread, push the winder back to neutral, and remove the bobbin.

8. Test stitch — Always test a few stitches on scrap fabric before starting your project.

⚠️ Common mi.stakes to avoid

Skipping the tension disc → causes loose, messy bobbins.

Overfilling or underfilling the bobbin → leads to tension issues.

Try it now — a well-wound bobbin fixes more sewing problems than you’d think!
