But at the very least, the Bible shows that people are souls that can exist apart from the body. If Scripture teaches a disembodied intermediate state, then it necessarily supports the doctrine of the soul. And this, in turn, implies some form of immortality, the soul as the enduring part of our being that continues to exist beyond the grave, even when the body lies in it.
