"BED NR1 (Phenolic Birch Ply)
Originally I started getting into CNCs because I wanted to build myself a bed a few years ago.

I started with a Lowrider v2 and dove deeper and deeper into the world of CNC-Routers, which led me to the Stronghold Pro. In the meantime I kind of had forgotten about the bed.

When I turned 30 years old recently, I finally didn’t want to sleep on a mattress on the floor anymore. At that point, I got back to drawing a bed. I used Fusion 360 for all my drawings and Vcarve to generate the toolpaths.

As I didn’t want any feet supporting the middle of the frame, I needed sturdy Materials. I chose 24mm phenolic birch ply for the frame, and a 50x50mm square steel tube as the middle support beam. I designed and printed some brackets from paht-cf on my X1C to hold the steel tubing to the wooden panels (The V-Core 4 hasn’t been ready at that point).

I wanted the bed to be able to be taken apart easily in case I’ll need to move. I had already worked with Lamello Clamex Connectors before, so I started browsing their page for something more CNC friendly. I found the Lamello Cabineo M6 Connectors. These Connectors can be fully cut on a 3-Axis router, and feature threaded M6 inserts. They can therefore be assembled and disassembled multiple times without any threads failing.

I can highly recommend these to anyone running a CNC-Router!

As my Stronghold Pro only features 150x100cm of cutting volume and a bed typically measures around 210cm, I needed to get creative to be able to cut it on the CNC. I designed all my cutting-paths in symmetry around a point of rotation in the front of the machine, and added 2 M7 Steelpins to the Spoilboard. After cutting the first half, I rotated the workpiece by 180 degrees, and indexed it to the metal pins."
