Finnley's Audio Adventures

Hello, my shiny-shelled friends,
This is Finnley the Dolphin with a quieter ripple than usual. I have been thinking about the future of Finnley’s Audio Adventures, and I may be sunsetting the channel at the end of this year. Sharing new episodes has become increasingly difficult because of Universal Music Group.

Several older videos, as well as newer ones like Blues for Dracula, have been blocked worldwide under copyright claims. To be clear, these are not copyright strikes. For a long time, I uploaded videos knowing that a copyright claim would appear, and I never minded because it did not affect the channel or its visibility. I was never in this to earn revenue, only to share these sounds and their stories. Most of the time, the videos stayed up with a short note in the description about the music used. Recently, however, UMG has started blocking videos entirely. Some of these claims have been wrong, including a few shorts featuring children’s songs and nursery rhymes from The Record Guild of America. UMG claimed “melody copyright” simply because similar tunes appear on newer albums under their label.

It takes hours to clean and prepare a record, record the video and audio, edit the footage, write a blog post, and now also create a narration script. When that work disappears because of a false or restrictive claim, it is difficult not to feel discouraged. I find myself at a crossroads, unsure of how to continue. Self-hosting is possible, but right now very few people visit the blog.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for how Finnley’s Audio Adventures could keep swimming, please let me know. Your thoughts and support mean the world.

Until next time, keep your stylus clean, your records dry, and your hearts tuned to the background.

Finnley's Audio Adventures

Well shucks and sea-shells, can you believe it? After three whole years of diving through thrift bins, dodging dust bunnies, and resurfacing with forgotten grooves, we're just 102 subscribers away from hitting the big 1-0-0-0 here on Finnley's Audio Adventures! That’s right, the thousand-mark is within these flippers reach.

So I’ve got a question for all you deep-groove diggers, what’s your favorite category here in our little corner of audio oddities? Do you drift toward the children's records, vibe with the vintage commercials, or bop along with bizarre budget labels?

And hey, leave a comment on your favorite video I posted so I know which treasure really made your sonar sing. I’d love to know what’s been making waves with you!
