What I Wish I Knew Before My CCCA Got Worse 💜

This picture means so much more to me than just “before and after.” 💜👑

That is my daughter Sydney in BOTH photos.

For the longest time, I could not understand why her hair seemed like it just would not grow. I was buying hair products from the beauty supply store, doing her hair, moisturizing it, trying different things …but her hair stayed dry, fragile, and kept breaking.

And at the time, I didn’t really understand ingredients.

I was looking at the front of the bottle.
“Moisturizing.”
“Strengthening.”
“For healthy hair.”
“For growth.”

But I wasn’t turning that bottle around and really studying what was INSIDE.

Then my own hair journey changed everything.

After I was diagnosed with CCCA, I became much more intentional about learning about hair, the scalp, ingredients, formulations, and what I was actually putting on our hair.

And the more I learned, the more I started questioning some of the products we had been using.

Because sometimes your hair isn’t “not growing.”

👉🏽 It may be growing and BREAKING at the same time.

When the hair is constantly being stripped, dried out, coated with heavy buildup, or exposed to products that don’t agree with it, you can end up losing length almost as quickly as you’re gaining it.

That was the lightbulb moment for me.

I started paying attention to ingredients instead of marketing.

I started creating products with our actual hair and scalp needs in mind.

And eventually, I stopped using all those different products on Sydney’s hair and started using the products I was making.

And that is why I am so passionate about what I do.

Sydney Nicole Products didn’t begin because I woke up one day and decided I wanted to own a hair-care company.

It came from a real need.

My hair.
My scalp.
My daughter’s hair.
Our experiences.

I wanted to know what was actually going into the products we were using, and I wanted to create formulas that focused on moisture, scalp care, length retention, and healthier hair practices instead of just giving the appearance of healthy hair.

And no, this isn’t about attacking another company. Every head of hair is different, and not every ingredient affects everyone the same way.

This is about learning to READ YOUR INGREDIENTS. Pay attention to how your hair responds. And stop assuming that breakage means your hair isn’t growing.

CCCA doesn’t just affect the hair you can see …it can affect the actual hair follicle underneath your scalp. 👑

In this video, I’m breaking down what “scarring alopecia” really means, how inflammation can damage the follicle, and why paying attention to your scalp BEFORE you see a bald spot matters.

One study I also mentioned looked at pumpkin seed oil in 76 men with androgenetic alopecia over 24 weeks. The pumpkin seed oil group had an average 40% increase in hair count compared with about 10% in the placebo group. That was a male-pattern hair-loss study, not a CCCA study, but I think it’s important to look at the research when we’re talking about hair wellness from the inside out.

For me, this journey has always been about being intentional — keeping my scalp clean, reducing unnecessary tension, supporting moisture, paying attention to my body and nurturing the follicles that are still producing hair. 💜

In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 76 men with androgenetic hair loss, the group taking pumpkin seed oil for 24 weeks had an average 40% increase in hair count, compared with about 10% in the placebo group.

That’s one of the reasons I’ve talked about pumpkin seed oil for years when we’re discussing hair wellness from the inside out. 💜
