But forget all these videos about Satan/The Devil's original name being, "Lucifer." It's simply NOT true.

The Entire backstory: For the Record.

Hel-el Ben Shachar in Hebrew for "shining one" and son of the dawn was his given angelic name, mentioned in his origin story in Isaiah 14 parelleling the King of Tyre. He is later revealed to be a former "anointed cherub" in Ezekiel 28 as well. After his rebellion and fall [see Luke 10] from Heaven, God Elohim/El Shaddai refers to him as Ha-Satan in the Book of Job, which means "adversary" or "opponent."

Then in the Greek New Testament he is called Diablos or "devil" for slanderer and deceiver, and sometimes called the prince of demons known as Beelzebul or Beelzebub. And then as the "Serpent"of Genesis 3 who later becomes the "Dragon" of Revelation 12, "who leads the whole world astray."

In modern times, the Italian writer Dante Alighieri took the Latin term of lucifer or "light-bearer" and morning star because that's what was translated in the Latin Vulgate from "Hel-el Ben Shachar" in the Hebrew as shining one and son of the morning as well as "phosphorus" in Greek for light-bringer and "heosphorus" bringer of dawn found in other passages. Also, in Job 38 we see angels and cherubs referred to as sons of god and morning stars who sing.

Summary: Hel-el/Ha-Satan/Diablos/Beelzebub/The Serpent & The Dragon. Then in Latin, Lucifer.

That's all there is to it. But since Dante's Inferno was so popular people seem to keep using the term lucifer over some of the others. I don't know why.
* The term lucifer for "morning star" is not necessarily reserved for this former angelic being and enemy of God.

For Jesus Himself is referred to as the True Morning Star in 2 Peter and in the Book of Revelation chapters 2 and 22, and declares that He will give certain believers the Morning Star as a reward.

Revelation 2:28, Revelation 22:16, 2 Peter 1:19. 

And Jesus is also called The Sunrise from on High in Luke 1:78.

For anyone who have ever been part of a youth group and those of us with a shepherd's heart: this low budget movie delivers a genuine and worthwhile message to the audience without relying on flashy story telling. Haters will make fun of it being a Christian movie but it takes a down to earth approach to reaching apathetic kids in the suburbs for Christ without comprising God's Word.
