Review: The Tenant by Freida McFadden

Book #11 of my reading journey | 2nd Freida McFadden book this year
The Tenant follows Blake Porter, a successful marketing executive who, after being abruptly fired, faces financial ruin. In an attempt to make ends meet, he and his fiancée, Krista, decide to rent out their spare bedroom. Enter Whitney Cross—a charming and seemingly perfect tenant. However, Blake's life quickly unravels as strange occurrences escalate: missing toiletries, rotten food appearing in hidden places, and a mysterious rash. As tensions rise, Blake suspects Whitney is intentionally sabotaging his relationship with Krista. The narrative takes a shocking turn when Blake discovers the true identity of the women in his life, revealing a years-long plot of revenge rooted in a high school tragedy .
Despite the intriguing premise and McFadden's signature twist-driven storytelling, this book didn't quite hit the mark for me. While the plot had potential, the pacing felt uneven, and the characters lacked the depth found in her other works. The suspense didn't build as effectively, leaving me less engaged than I anticipated. Overall, it was an okay read but didn't live up to the high standards set by McFadden's previous books
