Today was a difficult one.
I told my students a secret I've held all year: I am leaving teaching after school ends.
This has been an agonizing thing for me, and all year I've been savoring the memories. I told my students today that they're genuinely some of the best kids I've ever had. They've been amazing.
There was a mix of emotions in my classes but fortunately this didn't hit them as hard because they're off to high school soon. I'm going to miss these gremlins so much. Now, I'm preparing them for the 13th annual poetry slam and we're going to do our best to win the golden toilet seat. We're going to focus on creating great memories before the end of the year.
I've been so lucky to have the most incredible support from my students, colleagues, school, and community. Ultimately, even with me going part-time as a teacher, my author responsibilities continued to grow and in order for me to maintain a better work/life balance, my wife and I have made the decision that I go full-time as an author.
Will this last forever? I don't know. I renewed my teaching license in January, and I'm saving my teaching materials, so there's a chance I'm back in the next five years.
But for the foreseeable future, I will be focusing on my growing author career, writing more books, and hopefully doing more events.
Eastmont Middle School will always be part of me. I have so much to be grateful for, and it's thanks to my cheering students in the auditorium three years ago that so many people became aware of SKY'S END.
GO EASTMONT PATRIOTS!

I had a great time at the Henderson Reads Book Festival in Nevada this last weekend! I had a chance to talk to teen writers at the Teen Writing Contest at the Paseo Verde library and give some advice.
We sold out of SKY'S END at the library. The next day, I was able to present on the Skylands and sign a few more books!
I added another pin to my signing map in the US and another badge to my collection!
The DOWNFALL tour is officially over, but I still have events planned throughout the year. Next up, I will be at Storymakers in Provo, Utah on May 16th where I will present on Traditional Publishing 101.
Hope to see you there!

I had an amazing event at Old Town Books with Scott Reintgen last night. We had a full room and so many people came to see us.
A particularly funny highlight was when a reader asked us who the tastiest creature was in our books and Scott was like, "Please don't eat my dragons" and I then mentioned people eat my monsters all the time! I said, "Gorgantaun Westley is delicious and sort of like a beef wellington."
My wife and I had some yummy seafood and I enjoyed a delicious lobster roll, and had a great time walking around Alexandria.
Next up on the tour is TeenBookCon in Houston.
Thanks as always to my publisher Peachtree Teen for sending me out to Virginia.
RISE!

I'm knee-deep in the copy edits for my next novel, BEHIND THE GLASS, planned for release later this year on November 10th from Blackstone Publishing.
I first wrote this book many years ago when I was trying to land a literary agent with SKY’S END. I'm so happy readers will get to dive into this violent cyberpunk thrill-ride. It has touches of The Matrix, Ready Player One, The Godfather, and Star Trek holodeck episodes where the safety protocols have been disabled!
Here's a quick synopsis:
A breakneck dystopian thriller from the mind of New York Times bestselling author Marc J. Gregson
When he was just fourteen years old, Malcolm Jennings was conscripted by a corporation who got him addicted to rage-inducing drugs and turned into one of their disposable child soldiers.
But Malcolm isn't a child anymore.
He's the ultimate survivor-a relentless, unstoppable killer, tested by years of battle in a pollution-ravaged Earth. That makes him the top target for the eco-activists who are fighting corporate rule … but they don't want to stop him. They want to recruit him.
Eager for revenge against those who stole his life, Malcolm and his new allies infiltrate the reigning authority's twisted business school-a 1920s mob-era simulacrum where the next generation of ruthless executives are groomed to out-gangster each other in an all-out crime war.
The stakes could not be higher.
For Malcolm, it's his only chance at payback. For everyone else, it may be their only chance to save the world outside.
