I spent my childhood sinking thousands of hours into NHL Hockey (92) on the Genesis against my brother and friends. We thought we knew every single trick in the book.
It turns out I’ve been living under a rock for the past 34 years. 🤯
A viewer recently told me that if you take the expansion San Jose Sharks all the way through the playoffs and win the Stanley Cup, a hidden, team-specific Easter egg text pops up under the playoff tree. 🦈🏆
I fired up RetroArch to pull off a Cup run and see if the myth was real. Have any of you guys actually seen this back in the day, or did you strictly play with powerhouse teams like Chicago or Detroit?
Check out the final game against the Devils, the brutal password screens, and the exact moment the text triggers below! 👇

My computer is shot so I won't be doing any live streams for a few days. I am waiting delivery on my new laptop and hopefully I will have it set up for gaming by this weekend.

Someone needs to make the NHL ’94 Goal Light Cartridge. This was an idea that was first posted on Dave Geeky Ideas.
"If it were up to me, I would re-release it in this nifty cartridge with a built-in goal light. The LED light would illuminate when a goal is scored (unless the scoring team is the Canucks or Oilers)."
We need to make this happen!!!!
Where the idea came from:

How to break the glass in NHL '94 according to the person who helped design this game, Jim Simmons:
"I've built a small sweet spot into the glass panel directly behind the right half of the goal - it's only three pixels wide by five pixels tall. That's about the size of the puck. You have to hit that sweet spot right on, extremely hard. Using a player that has a really hard slapshot helps, but luck is usually the strongest determining factor in getting it to shatter."
Credit goes to bend who posted this on the forums on nhl94.com - forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/20154-how-to-brea…

I am still trying to figure out if the Atlanta Thrashers was just a bad dream or if the team actually existed.

Some days, the NHL '94 ref is so bad that he seems like he failed out of WWE school of referees.

There was a time that you didn't need a big budget or access to many programmers to release a banger of a game.
NHL '94 was programmed primarily by one person, Mark Lesser....and he did it from his unheated barn in Maine!
Once this was released, everyone knew this was going to be a game to remember. This was the only NHL game released by EA that outsold its Madden counterpart - NHL '94 outsold Madden '94.
This game built on the success of NHL Hockey and NHLPA '93. Although fighting and blood was removed from the game, some of the improvements included were real team names, one-timers and manual goalie control.
'94 still has an active community with online leagues and live tournaments.
Do you still fire up NHL '94 from time to time?
