🌞 I believe in solar power as the prominent energy source of the future. I own a Forest River travel trailer 🚐 that I installed a very nice Photo Vitalic off-grid 12 volt D/C - 600 Watt solar system, with an inverter 🔌 and full A/C outlet system. I accomplished the installation with my own hands from start to finish. 🛠️My system works well.


🔋 The system panels are Eco Worthy due to affordability 💰. I bought 3 - 200 Watt panel sets, for a total of 600 watts. Installing them on my roof with hinges on one side and adjustable bracket arms on each side. Due to the adjustable ability, I can still get 28 - 30 amps continuous ⚡ or (336 - 360 watts continuous) under perfect conditions between 10 am to 1 pm in the dead of winter. The limit to my power is the inverter. At 2500 watts, it has its limitations.


🔧 I purchased T-branch parallel 2 x 1 and 4 x 1 adapters along with a 10-pack IP67 waterproof solar panel connectors so I could shorten or lengthen the wire as needed.


⚠️ As a side note, I did have one issue: After installation, the system started to have a 60 or 70 percent loss of watts coming into the system. Through continuity testing, I realized that one of my IP67 connectors lost continuity. I opened it up, pushed the wire deeper into the connector, and the issue was fixed.


🌍 I really like solar energy and use it in my personal life. I am an advocate for its future as the primary energy source. I enjoy working with my hands 🛠️, and have all the tools needed to do installs as an apprentice/helper. I’m comfortable with rooftops 🏠 and ladders. I would enjoy the opportunity to install systems.

😮 Winter output drops not only because days are shorter, but also because the Sun sits lower—so sunlight hits your panels more sideways.


🔦 Think flashlight-on-a-wall: straight-on = a small bright spot; angled = the light spreads out and looks weaker.


📐 Solar works the same way: the closer sunlight is to “straight-on,” the more energy the panel can catch per square meter.


🛠️ If your mount is adjustable, a steeper winter tilt (facing the equator) can help, and it may also let snow slide off sooner—just keep wind load and mounting safety in mind.


🌎 Northern Hemisphere: face panels south. Southern Hemisphere: face panels north (toward the equator).


📐 Quick rule-of-thumb formula: Winter tilt (from horizontal) ≈ your latitude + 10–15°.(rule of thumb—your best angle can vary by weather, roof limits, and shading）

In normal use, no — but cold weather will make it feel weaker.



🏃‍♂️Your battery in the cold is like you running in a thick winter coat — you’re slower and get tired faster, but you’re not injured.



🧊Low temperatures slow down the chemical reactions inside lithium cells, which reduces the usable capacity for the moment.



🔋At around 0°C, a lithium battery might only deliver 70–80% of its rated capacity, depending on how cold it actually is.



✅The good news? This effect is reversible.



🌡️Once the battery warms back up toward its ideal temperature (around 25°C), the usable capacity will gradually recover. The cold didn’t “kill” the battery — it just temporarily limited how much energy it could deliver.



Winter tips for keeping your LiFePO₄ battery healthy:



1️⃣Avoid high-current charging in very low temperatures . Ordinary batteries shouldn't be charged below 0°C as it can damage them.But if your LiFePO₄ battery has low-temperature protection, it can safely charge down to -7°C.



2️⃣ Don’t drain the battery completely in the cold — leaving some charge is better for battery health.



3️⃣Install your battery somewhere with some insulation or shelter from the cold, to keep it at a more stable temperature.



❄️Used correctly, your LiFePO₄ battery is much more “cold-resilient” than it feels on a freezing day.

• Cold makes cables stiff and brittle.
• Make sure all connections are tight to avoid poor contact or faults.
