65% of the global population is lactose intolerant, but there is a discrepancy between races. People of Northern European descent tend to be lactose persistent—they have little to no trouble digesting lactose. Blacks, Asians, Native Americans, Latinx, and Ashkenazi Jews experience higher rates of lactose intolerance, ranging from 70%-95%. When those who are lactose intolerant consume any kind of dairy, they can experience a range of mild to severe symptoms including gas, bloating, diarrhea, stomach pain, and other gastrointestinal distress 🤒🚫🥛

In the United States—where Caucasians are not only in majority but hold a significant portion of the political power—dairy is considered a health food by both public and private agencies. In essence, the lactose-persistent white majority is making nutritional decisions for the entire population without taking into account the harmful effects dairy has on BIPOC communities. This is dietary racism and banning this injustice is a huge part of our mission at Switch4Good.

You don't see sports teams pouring chocolate milk on their coaches because chocolate milk is NOT a recovery drink (neither is gatorade, for that matter)! 👎

As mentioned earlier, chocolate milk is recommended to athletes because of its supposedly ideal ratio of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, but not all carbohydrates, fat, and proteins are created equal, and chocolate milk happens to include the types of those macronutrients that are detrimental to human health 🤒 The carbohydrates in chocolate milk mostly consist of added processed white sugar and corn syrup. The fat in milk is mostly saturated, and research shows that saturated fat increases our risk of cardiovascular disease and other chronic illnesses. The protein source is also problematic, as it consists of 82% casein and 20% whey. Casein has been seen to stimulate unregulated growth in the body, and many researchers associate it with triggering the growth of cancer cells.

Whether you’re an athlete or someone looking to boost your performance and support your recovery, chocolate milk is NOT your answer ❌ BUT we do have some nourishing recovery drinks to help get the job done! ⬇️
