Back in January, Shaan786 and Dirt Griggity broke down the PS5 ROM key leak on TTS Xbox Podcast 234 — and I clipped that segment for GBN because I knew it was bigger than people realized.
In the comments of that video, I said this:
“This is the effect of high prices and inflation… hackers/modders/pirates always strike back when the market outprices the consumer.
I said the PS5 would be fully jailbroken within a year…
And that PS6 wouldn’t make it to 2030 — Sony would rush new hardware in 2027 or 2028 to get ahead of this.”
Fast forward to today…
Sony just announced they’re going fully digital in 2028 and ending physical game releases.
Everyone’s acting shocked — but this is exactly the kind of shift you get when a console is compromised at the hardware level and the market is already pushing consumers away from $70–$100 games.
The ROM key leak wasn’t “just a modding story.”
It exposed a long‑term vulnerability Sony cannot patch on existing PS5s… and now the strategy is changing in real time.
