But as we followed the evidence through the Luba, Bemba, and Chokwe-Lunda world, the story became far more complicated.

Names endured.
Societies changed.
Neighboring peoples interacted.
And some ideas may have travelled with them.

So what survived from the older traditions—and what changed along the way?

Some trusted. Some followed. Some feared. Some recognized. And some asked Him to leave.

BEFORE THE FIRE FELL… 🔥

Most people remember Elijah standing on Mount Carmel when the fire fell from heaven.

But what happened before the fire?

There was a brook that dried up.
A widow who had almost nothing left.
A child who died.
A nation caught between the LORD and Baal.
And later, a servant who looked toward the sea and reported:

“There is nothing.”

Yet through changing circumstances, one truth remained:

The outcome changed. God did not.

Tomorrow we journey through 1 Kings 17–18 and discover Elijah not as a biblical superhero, but—as James later reminds us—“a man with a nature like ours.”

And ultimately, this story doesn't point us to the greatness of Elijah.

It points us to the declaration heard on Mount Carmel:

“THE LORD, HE IS GOD!
THE LORD, HE IS GOD!” — 1 Kings 18:39
