🌼✨ VAISAKHI CELEBRATION AT 10 DOWNING STREET ✨🌼
This Vaisakhi, Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed Sikhs from across the UK to 10 Downing Street for a special reception, honouring the spirit of Vaisakhi and the incredible contribution of British Sikhs to the nation.
In a heartfelt address, the Prime Minister spoke not just as a host, but as a fellow citizen—opening the doors of both his workplace and his home to the Sikh community. "You are entitled to be here. You belong here," he said. "This is your government."
🇬🇧 From recognising the bravery of Sikh soldiers in both World Wars, to honouring the seva (selfless service) shown during the pandemic and in response to the cost of living crisis, the evening was a powerful reflection of Sikh values—courage, compassion, and service.
🙏🏽 Gurdwaras across the UK were praised for being beacons of hope, welcoming refugees, feeding the hungry, and standing strong in times of adversity.
✨ The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to building a country where diversity is celebrated, where prejudice has no place, and where the Sikh community continues to be a vital thread in the rich fabric of British life.

ਸੁਣੀ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਠਾਇਆ।
The benefactor Lord listened to the cries (of humanity) and sent Guru Nanak to this world.

ਚਰਨ ਧੋਇ ਰਹਰਾਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਚਰਣਾਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਪੀਲਾਇਆ।
He washed His feet, eulogised God and got his Disciples drink the ambrosia of his feet.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਇਕ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ।
He preached in this darkage (kaliyug) that, saragun (Brahm) and nirgun (Parbrahm) are the same and identical.

ਚਾਰੇ ਪੈਰ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਚਾਰਿ ਵਰਨ ਇਕ ਵਰਨੁ ਕਰਾਇਆ।
Dharma was now established on its four feet and all the four castes (through fraternal feeling) were converted into one caste (of humanity).

ਰਾਣਾ ਰੰਕ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਵਣਾ ਜਗਿ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ।
Equating the poor with the prince, he spread the etiquette of humbly touching the feet.

ਉਲਟਾ ਖੇਲੁ ਪਿਰੰਮ ਦਾ ਪੈਰਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਸੀਸੁ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ।
Inverse is the game of the beloved; he got the egotist high heads bowed to feet.

ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਬਾਬੇ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁ ਪੜ੍ਹਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ।
Baba Nanak rescued this dark age (kaliyug) and recited ‘satinam’ mantr for one and all.

ਕਲਿ ਤਾਰਣ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਇਆ ॥੨੩॥
Guru Nanak came to redeem the kaliyug.
